When Halo 3 comes out perhaps we will be able to tell you if it's up to 'par' with the others. So far it looks as though it kicks some serious ass, but without seeing any gameplay (like the H2 E3 video showed us) or playing a beta (although one IS coming out in '07), it's hard to tell exactly HOW good it is.
Halo 1 for PC or Xbox is simply superb. Halo 2 for Xbox apparently has fantastic multiplayer and mediocre singleplayer. Halo 2 for PC has not yet been released, and so far Microsoft is being conniving evil bastards mean by restricting it to Vista only. Halo 1 is for Xbox and Xbox 360, Halo 2 is for either Xbox or Xbox 360 (I believe) and Halo 3 will be for the 360 only I believe.
Unfortunately H3 will not be released in time for Christmas '06.
