I've been reading a lot of stuff at halo.bungie.org recently and I cam up on the old update on bungie when they released the trailer. The mentioned the ring spokes that were in the backround of the trailer. It said they were broken peices of the space elevator. Whats that?

The elevator design featured in Halo 2 and Halo 3 is more advanced than the concepts in that article, presumably using unspecified technology such as advanced magnetics to hold the rings aloft. A functional elevator is featured in Ghosts of Onyx, and it is noted that when the station at the top (space end) of the elevator is destroyed, the various rings fall back to Earth, implying that the elevator is held aloft by the station.
