Graphical Update Can't Post

Fianlly :D.

Quote

RuneScape has been reworked and now looks better than ever! If you are a member, you will be able to access this update by following the directions below. If you are a free player, you can expect to be playing RuneScape HD as soon as the Beta period is over. Free players who select RuneScape HD will receive a preview of the new graphics, meaning they can see how it runs on their machines, but will be unable to play in it.

NOTE - this is a live Beta. This means that if you lose or win an item, die or gain experience, it is for real - the effects will remain on your account even after the Beta period is over. Please do not throw away items thinking that you will get them back after the Beta period.

Playing RuneScape HD:

You will notice that the website has been given a fresh lick of paint, but your path to the game remains as simple as before. Click \'Play RuneScape\' on the new RuneScape front page to get to the Detail Select page. Then click the right-hand button, \'RuneScape High Detail\', to select the new version. Finally, choose your world, and then start playing.

To play RuneScape HD, your computer will need the following system specifications:

1.5 GHz processor or higher
256MB of RAM or more
64MB 3D Graphics card, such as Nvidia® GeForce™ 3 or above
Sun Java 1.4 or higher
Once the game has loaded, you can use the in-game Graphics Options menu, within your Options tab (the one with the spanner), to further increase or decrease your level of detail. You can also change them on the log in screen. So, if you are experiencing slowdown, try reducing the number of graphical features.

The new fullscreen mode can also be toggled on or off in the in-game Options tab or the log in screen.

When you have set your preferred graphics options, your settings will be remembered as the default every time you log in on that machine. You may change these graphics options at any point.

If you have further questions, or are having trouble playing RuneScape HD, please visit the FAQS, found here.

Playing in the old detail modes:

To access the old High or Low Detail modes, click the left-hand \'RuneScape\' button on the Detail Select page. This option manages to be both the old detail modes, rolled into one! You will be able to use the in-game Graphics Options menu to choose the exact level of detail you wish to play in. If you turn everything to minimum you get the old Low Detail mode, and if you turn everything to maximum you get the old High Detail mode.

Oh god, the option to turn off the loading screen music is gone! OH GOD THE TERRIBLE MUSIC BURNNNNSSSSS, IT BURNNNNNS!

I actually lag when I try and use 1600x1200 on my computer, and I actually have a really, really good computer. I can see people flipping out because of the lag soon.

Oh well I'm enjoying staring at the logging screen right now.

So, they reworked some areas, including my favorite mining spot, in the scorp mine in alkaharid.

There was 3 iron rocks in a triangle, so I could hit all 3 at once without moving.

now they are in a line. Frown

Does that formation exist anywhere else in runescape? (other than the wildy)

I've spent hours upon hours botting there in rsc.

My guess is 1 week, 2 at max. It isn't really a 'beta', its just Jagex's way of trying to make people members. People were excited for it, and knew they'd pay to see it, so they use the "beta" excuse.

If it is a real beta, than they expect there to be problems. So if thats the case, probably more like a month.

But hey, they're just a business, I don't blame them.

That's almost a total knock-off of the WoW UI.

Big and nice or crappy and small, it's still Java, and Java is a terrible programming language that really, really needs to die. It's far too system resource intensive, and looks like crap. Andrew Gower needs to be shot for being such a stubborn dickstooge and let those poor, impoverished developers he keeps hanging from their ankles in the gallows use Python or something.

I thought one of the selling points of runescape was low system requirements. Isn't this why most of you don't play modern games? Now you're praising it for an upgrade that, thanks to Java, is even more taxing on your computer than most games from the 2000 era which are still graphically superior to runescape.

Jagex sucks for insisting on keeping runescape in a browser, and you all suck for supporting it.

Re: [TazG] Graphical Update [In reply to] Can't Post

That's exactly the only reason I ever played it in the first place, because I had this [Expletive Deleted]ty little 16mb video card on my very first computer. I've tried to pick it up again every so often but it always fails after a week or two.

Edit: TAZ. I'm not going to even think I know the slightest bit about coding, but considering the ridiculous low system requirements on games like CS:S which have reasonable graphics, wouldn't the requirements for this hd nonsense be a lot lower if Jagex abandoned their...loyalty(?) to Java?

I just play it because it's cheap and you can play it on any given computer with internet.

You can still play runescape without full screen or hd you know
