PS2 stops reading disc (PLEASE HELP)

Hi . I'm new to this forum. Nice to meet you
My problem is my PS2 suddenly couldn't read any disc at all and I don't think it's the "Disc read error" thing many people have been talking about. (I guess)
My PS2 is about one year old. One afternoon, I played a game and my system worked fine as usual.I turned it off for awhile. When I turned it back on for another game, it sounds like it's reading the disc.
The screen where all the cubes and lights moving, now moving very slowly.. I waited until the menu screen showed up and it didn't go nowhere.. I clicked Browse and there's a message saying "Reading...". I waited for a few more minutes and gave up. (Sometimes it showed "Disc read error")
I've tried to play many kinds of discs PS1 CDs PS2 DVDs. Even Audio CDs didn't work. I was planning on buying a new laser reader before but now I didn't think the laser part's at fault. (since it worked fine before it died)
Do you know what's wrong?
Please give me advise on what I should do.
