Boot Failure. Can't Post

Man Moonshadow is in big trouble. That Ryl game I downloaded sent my system in the toilet. Just kidding brah. Ok. So I boot my PC. After the Windows Logo loading bar thing finishes, it flashes me a disfigured BSOD for about half a second, and then reboots. It then shows me the "Sorry for your inconvenience, but Windows failed to start normally." Please select a boot option. I try the "Start Windows normally". The same BOSD flash thing happens again. I try "last known good config" option. Same thing.

After That tried "safe mode". It runs the screen down with all the files it's loading, and then stops and says "Please hit escape to cancel loading SDTP.sys". I looked up SDTP on google and it said Serial Data Transport Protocol. Blargh. So then I reboot AGAIN, but this time I hit f10 on the manufacturing splash page to launch the recovery console. It does some loading and all that jazz, and then shows me the BSOD, except this time it stays there and I can read it.

It says: "A Problem has occurred.." yadda yadda.. "UNMOUNTABLE_VOLUME" And then it says someting about hardware/software not being installed properly (RYL). So I figured something is screwed with my HD, cause thats what I boot from. I hit setup on my next boot, and it pulls up the CMOS. I run both SMART tests on My HD, and they both fail, but it doesn't give you a reason why. I don't even know what a SMART test is.

So I figured I would pop in another PC's hardrive into this one, transfer all of my files onto it, wipe the master, and then re transfer everything back on. While I'm reading up on which IDE cable goes where, I figured someone could give me some insight or ideas.

bye.

Why didn't you just reinstall windows on the same HDD/partition?

Then you should be able to retrieve your files. It's far easier. Once you make a backup you can reformat and reinstall.

What boot disc? If you have the windows installer you can just install it on the partition that already exists.

If you have a recovery disc/partition that was shipped with your computer then you may not be able to.

Update: changing the hardrives wouldn't work for some silly reason; probably from my mistake or something. I took it in to the Geeksquad at BestBuy, and they are telling me that my hardrive got screwed by some power surge, (there was a blackout a few days ago), and that the cahnge in the file system when I installed RYL sent it for a spin. He is running some program to remove all my files (Hopefully he finds my History Essay, it's kind of due today), but most of the files are probably corrupted.

bye.
