How to dual boot XP and Vista. Can't Post

I spent my morning yesterday working on this, and it was actually pretty easy. Turns out Vista isn't all that bad - it definitely installs faster than XP - the only thing I really don't like about it is having to click "Confirm" every time I look at a lousy system file. Just a crappy attempt at security.

Anyway, the way I did it is as follows:

1. Boot into GParted.

2. I used three partitions - a 30GB for Vista, a 30GB for XP, and a 100GB for various backups in case I have to reinstall either.

3. Boot from the Vista DVD and install to the first partition. This'll be the C drive. Make sure everything works, Internet connected, etc.

4. Boot into the XP CD. Install it to the second partition, which will be the D drive (shouldn't have any problems there). At this point, once it's installed, it will have overwritten Vista's bootloader, so now you can't get into Vista.

5. Boot the Vista DVD again, click "Repair your Computer" when you get to the menu, then go to Startup Repair. It should scan your system and say something about corrupt sectors. Whatever. Basically it should overwrite the XP bootloader with the Vista one again, so now you can get into Vista but not XP.

6. Get into Vista, and download and install EasyBCD (Google it and click the first link). It should show you your bootloader when you start it. Click Add Entry, select Windows 2000/XP/2003 in the dropdown box, and it should go ahead and do that.

7. Reboot and test things. The bootloader should have entries for both Vista and XP loaded into it, and both should work with no problems.

Update: Vista and Linux apparently cannot be dual-booted through the normal means (see my other thread), but this tutorial shows you how.

I already have my whole hard disk in two partitions, both Vista (shut up, it was cheaper than XP). Is there any way I can somehow still scrounge a third partition out of it without losing my data? Here's how it looks:

OH, and will it even be possible to do it with Win98 in stead of XP? Or would Win98 have to be installed first (not sure if it can recognize the Vista partitions) ?

With gparted you can shrink your partitions, add a new one, and possibly convert the filesystems to fat32 so windows 98 can see them. fat32 partitions can't be bigger than 32GB.

Thanks. So I just use the GParted live CD? And it can shrink the partitions without data loss?

Yeah, but it's always a good idea to back up your data just in case.
