Compressed files will be in formats such as .zips or .rars, and pretty much guarantees you a virus. Torrenting is a another way to share files, and relies on other people to download from. A .torrent file will get you access to these 'swarms' of people and download the file, kept track of by 'trackers'. Trackers keep tabs on live torrents. People have to 'seed' a torrent to first put it out there in a swarm and trackers host the .torrent file, and then other people can download and seed. The smaller teh swarm the slower the download. No seeders, no download. People use torrents in programs like BitComet, Azureus, and uTorrent.
