Screen stopped working on my laptop. Can't Post

The screen on my laptop has stopped working, is there any way I can extract files from it without the screen besides removing the hard drive?

Yes, but I'd have to install the drivers for any other screens I try to use with the laptop and I can't do that without a screen.

It happened to mine once...I just used an old desktop monitor and it worked.

You shouldn't have to do that. Just plug any monitor into the VGA port on the back of the laptop, back up all your data, and pray you're still covered by warranty.

We definitely didn't know that. Thanks for the contribution.
What I said is just a logical solution, so he could just hook up a monitor and back up his files.

Tried it, didn't work.

Oh, and my warranty expired.

If the second monitor doesn't show anything maybe you have to select it. You can actually do that without seeing what you're doing, by using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

Turn on the computer and wait until you think it's finished starting up. The first thing you're supposed to do is right-click the desktop to make the menu come up. But there's a button that does it for you.

It's the one to the right of AltGr. First hold down the Windows key and press D to make sure the desktop is showing. If you don't have a menu key, just right-click and hope that you hit the desktop instead of an icon. Next, press R. That should bring up Properties. Then press Ctrl+Tab 4 times and you should be on the Settings tab. On that there's a drop-down menu for selecting a monitor. Alt+D selects the menu. Press the down arrow to select the second option in the menu, then press Alt+E to select the "extend my desktop" checkbox, then Alt+A to press the Apply button.

Using a mouse is for squares.

Normally when I turn my laptop on the fan slows down then speeds up, when I turned it on the fan didn't speed up and the mouse didn't light up.
