Ugh, don't use wireless cards from Netgear. Can't Post

I bought a Netgear WG311 PCI wireless card to (secretly) get Internet access in my room via our new wireless DSL gateway, and in the few days I've had it it's been nothing but crap. Once you learn not to use their software (honestly, Windows' built-in services are infinitely superior; I couldn't connect to my gateway at all using the software that came on the CD), you get random Stop messages, random crashes, and (this one's been nonstop) the entire browser crashing and preventing you from shutting down the computer properly (I have to either hold down the power button or flip the switch on the PSU).

$60? Bullshit. Go get something from D-Link. Unless someone can help me (I already have the latest drivers) I'm marching this miniature Satan back to CompUSA where it belongs.

EDIT: Further proof that it's crap -- the gateway works wonderfully. I'm posting from my laptop which is hooked up via plain Ethernet to the gateway. I swear, my experiences with this lousy card have almost put me off wireless networking for life.

Not D-link. My d-link router is crap, booting me like once a day or two! That doesn't sound bad, but when you literally need to be there for your girlfriend, and you can't physically be there, or on the phone, that's huge!

Linksys has always been good to me, and I've got a speed booster that actually works built into mine. You can get it at walmart, it's this product.

Screw them both. Go get something by Linksys.

1. It was in a desktop PC.

2. There was another network near me (I got a weak signal) using a similar gateway to mine. It had WEP encryption though. Netgear's software wouldn't let me connect to either of them, even when I had the SSID and WEP for my own network.

I'm still thinking about returning it because I have bigger problems now; the random crashes and OSs not booting is the reason my mom gave this compy to me in the first place - so she could spend $500 on a new one that actually does what you want it to. Long story short, I was a moron and upgraded my videocard drivers to proprietary ones or something, and now I can't boot into either OS. Too much precious data on my primary hard drive to just run DBAN. Conclusion? New compy, folks. I'm probably looking at an Athlon 64 or better once my aunt pays me.

Too bad you didn't have this issue earlier, boxing days sales are amazing. Man, I got the PC I have now for 250$, including the LCD monitor, 250gb HD, and Athlon 64 X2 and some crappy Nvidia card. I also had to wake up at 4:00 in the morning and camp out a future shop. Good times though, I saw some skinny guy get body checked out of the line, and some poor mother crying when she wasn't early enough to get her husband a Plasma TV.

bye.

I saw one for $199 at CompUSA that had 1GB of RAM and an Athlon 64 at however many Gigahertz. I think it also had a Lightscribe DVD burner. I'm a little skeptical that it'll be more than that, though, after reading Maddox's article on CompUSA, but we'll see. My moron friends keep hitting me up for money and at this rate I might never have enough.
