Virus or Helpful? Can't Post

I'm pretty sure its a virus, but i don't know. All these pop-up's keep coming up saying,"get anti-vermins,or malware wiped,or if you like, computer doctor. Then i decide ok i might have a virus so i download one of them. it says i have 243 infected files so i click delete. It reply's,"did you enjoy your FREE scan?", buy now for only 70.00$ and i'm like Wtf. i tryed everyone one and they all say the same thing. I scan with my anti-virus software that come with the computer(McAfee virus serch) and it finds nothing. Please tell me how to get this [Expletive Deleted] off my computer. i leave my computer on over night and 32 pop-ups are on when i wake up.Unsure

You have a virus.

Probably a bad one.

That happened to me when I had a virus that could not be deleted.

Does it keep changing your homepage to one of those FREE scan pages?

Pop ups = Bad
They lie like rugs. lol...

But yea you probably shouldn't have downloaded that so called "FREE scan". My suggestion is that you get a different virus scanning program, THAT is pretty well known like ad aware, spybot ect. and scan your computer along with McAfee because in my opinion McAfee is crap.

If the like little pop ups come on your screen when your not on the internet and they don't sound like windows, then you probably have a program already on your computer.
Make sure you don't have spy sheriff because when I had spy sheriff it always bsed me with messages saying I needed to scan my computer. (Spy Sheriff = Bad)

Road tripe3, you have malware installed on your computer. That doesn't mean it's a virus, so, you have the false anti-spyware program known as SpySheriff. Try removing it with Spybot - Search & Destroy.

I got that when my brother downloaded a game, we had to back up all the important files in safe mode, de-spyify them, and reformat our drive before we could use the computer properly again.

This same thing is happening to me right now. I need serious help!! I'm afraid to turn my computer back on because the keylogger/virus will spread more! What should I do? I have spy-bot but I don't want the virus to spread while the spy bot is checking. It would probably affect the program and intemplate it! HELP!!!!

The best thing to do: If you, or if you can get a hold of, a window XP installation disk then, Reboot your computer, then in the first screen you see press F2. that brings you to start up opitions. Find booting opition and edit it to only run on the disk drive. exit the set-up and save changes you made, restart your comp and it will run off windows XP for booting, so you will get windows set-up. There will be 4 installation spots, 1 will already have stuff already on it. That is the one that has a virus. you will everything EVERYTHING on your computer. you almost start a new life on the computer.

Another thing to do: I don't know much about safe mode, but it seems safe so talk to someone about how it work.

Another thing to do(risky): Reboot in normal mode and on start menu, go to Run. Edit REGEDIT. and it will bring up a regestery editer screen. This is the hard part cause it could [Expletive Deleted] up your coumputer bad. The screen has EVERYTHING on your computer.software, hardware, even your had screen. This is a powerful tool that gets right down to hte binary code somtimes so if you edit it wrong it could mean getting a new computer.

If he's afraid to reboot then how is he posting stuff?

Recover your computer back to a date which you didn't have the virus.

Ok, I read a couple of the posts... just summarizing what I do when I get calls to fix computers - I normally download Spybot S & D and then run that (I delete everything normally, except Windows Media Player comes up as spyware) Then I download firefox and use firefox. I never really have problems.

I wouldn't exactly go out and reformat your C drive or anything... but try spybot first.
