crash crash crash.	Can't Post

I'm not a PC tech, or really know a thing about my computers hardware, but I have a problem.

I'm not sure if my PC just needs a new fan because its getting overheated; But when I turn the P.O.S. on, it insists on giving me no warning what-so-ever & just randomly shutting down. It will only be running for like 15 minutes before it shuts down too. I'm assuming that it might just be getting to hot, but then again I have to no experience with PC's.
I did a few full system scans with norton 360 & i came up clean, so i don't think I have a virus or anything like that.
Anyone know what may be wrong & what i can do to help prevent/fix this.

Buy some thermal compound and reseat your heatsink to your CPU. There are tutorials for that, and it's usually the problem. If you have a discrete videocard, make sure it's not overheating (the slot in front of the fan/heatsink should be empty) or reinstall your drivers.

Or get some compressed air and clean your fans. That probably should be the first thing you do.

I suspect that you've got something nasty on your computer and it's frakking you up - nevermind what Norton says it's probably lying. Try a System Restore to a point before you had the problem.

If you have downloaded anything in the past i.e. limewire, chances are you have a virus and should either system reboot to before these started happening, but if you've never downloaded anything questionable then it's probably over-heating and you may need to clean out your fan/get a new one.

if that still doesn't work, have a professional come in and tell you what's wrong.

If you think it's a virus, use several scanners. AVG, Clamwin, Panda, McAfee, Antivir, etc.

Put some antispyware programs to work while you're at it. Use both Spybot and Ad-Aware to clean up any other cruft that might be lurking.

Haha, But true. Norton sucks, System Restore, Reinstalling windows and formating drive would do the trick.

Not in that order though. If you're real desperate, DBAN your drive (dban.sourceforge.net, coolest program ever) and reinstall Windows.

yeah, i was just wondering if there is anyway around having to do that. Like not a complete reinstall, if windows had some sort of reset or something lol.

You could back up all your Program Files to a separate hard drive partition, then just format your OS partition and reinstall on that, but you wouldn't have the start menu items or anything. You'd have to go to each program group and make shortcuts in My Documents or something.
