Blegh, I hate ZoneAlarm. What happened to me was it would disable my Internet every time it decided that it detected a problem, and it would take me an age of configuring and prayer to get it working again. On the plus side, you can get the Pro version for less than $10 at some stores.

ZoneAlarm is FREE and functional.
Initially I liked ZoneAlarm, and even advocated it to others. After using it for five years I no longer like it.

Pay money and get a 'real' firewall, i.e. McAfee. It's worth the investment.

Heh, thats not a good idea =P
People could easily make an undetectable Trojan/Keylogger. But then again, I could even make one which will kill/disable your firewall anyway.
YOU ARE NEVER SAFE FROM HACKING. lol. Just dont download suspicious .exe's.
IMO Dont just scan =P

Bittorrent fails for C&C3 a 7gb download left it on over night downloaded 1% to many leechers.

I don't have a firewall or a scanner. Occasionally I use a web-based scanner for suspicious files.
