Ah, I've got many a tip for a new graphic designer such as yourself 
First: Stars. The easiest way to add those is to...
1. Fill the background with black
2. Go to Filters > Noise > Add Noise
3. Set the settings to Amount: 10%, Gaussian, Monochromatic. Click OK
4. Go to Image > Adjustments > BRightness & Contrast
5. Set the settings to Brightness: -30 and Contrast +75. Click OK
Ta-da! A starfield!
As for planets... I'd recommend just Googling up Photoshop Planet Tutorials. Once you get more advanced, try this.
