They both look nice, the text on the top on is fine. For the text on the bottom just set the text layer blending mode to multiply or some other burn mode.

For the new one, I would suggest cleaning up the black spots on the top and the left using the blueish of the sword, it will round it off nicely.

Use the burn tool on the text. It will work with varying degrees of success.
