HEy check out this open source MMORPG engine coded in VB of course.
Miragesource.com

IT only usees 32 by 32 sprite blocks though.

32-bit. Uses PNG sheets but that is changalbe though.

The only problem is that its a stolen engine. The people there just stole the code from the Konfuze engine and made a really ugly gui, and claimed it as there own.
