How do you get off the island on king kong for the gba?

Ok how do you get off the island on Kong:the 8th Wonder of the World? I tried to go back across the lake but i cant find a spot to put the raft. Or do you go back to that one temple that you come out of when you get the objective to escape and look around for the coast? This is a hard game.
