OK, time to straighten this out.

Really. This is getting a little bit crazy, and everybody's taking this thing way more violently then they should. Here's what I was going to post in the "disrespecting mods" thread:

Quote

And who will deem this to be disrespectful? I mean, certainly you won't just trust yourself on your own volition to be deciding what is and isn't disrespectful.

So, what? We can't make any arguments that don't go toward your interests now? Hmm? 'Tis not at all disrespectful to disagree with a moderator. I disagree with this post that you've made already. Even I wouldn't insta-ban a week for what I deemed to be disrespectful. It would have to be obviously disrespectful if I were to do any sort of banning at all. People are entitled to protest the way the forum runs here.

I'd hate to have to talk to Jammah about this. I'd also hate for Jammah to have to make some long, drawn-out rule about what IS and ISN'T disrespectful, just because some moderator thought he was being mistreated.

You're not a holy being Nova, being moderator doesn't give you the right to act like a jackass, nor does it give you the right to overstep your boundries.

Nova, I think you're starting to act more strict than I was...I mean...you must admit, I put up with a lot of bull[Expletive Deleted] that you haven't had the misfortune of dealing with. And if this is what you call disrespect, you better hope I don't start digging up some of YOUR posts about ME Wink

No harm intended here; you're a cool guy Nova. It's just I think you're abusing your power here on FGF, and I'd rather FGF stay in one piece.

It's time for you, Nova, to start acting like a mod. Cease abusing your powers, cease the flaming, and cease the breaking of the rules that are the glue to this forum. You're a moderator: Start acting like one.

Xbot, this whole post is based around the assumption that nobody was being disrespected. They were. There is a difference between disagreeing and being disrespectful. It's funny how you ignored all the people who disagreed but were respectful about it, whom weren't punished.

I mentioned no names in my post.

And no, it is not. And your argument about them being disrespectful? Show me. Show me a post where the user was blatantly disrespectful, that any sensible moderator on this forum would point to it on a list of posts as being "clearly disrespectful". Show me TazG. Your word is not Holy to me.

Re: [TazG] OK, time to straighten this out. [In reply to]

no need i have its meaning:
(I am pretty sure its the first one..

1. Appealing to personal considerations rather than to logic or reason: Debaters should avoid ad hominem arguments that question their opponents' motives.

[Latin : ad, to + hominem, accusative of hom, man.]ad homi·nem adv.

Usage Note: As the principal meaning of the preposition ad suggests, the homo of ad hominem was originally the person to whom an argument was addressed, not its subject. The phrase denoted an argument designed to appeal to the listener's emotions rather than to reason, as in the sentence The Republicans' evocation of pity for the small farmer struggling to maintain his property is a purely ad hominem argument for reducing inheritance taxes. This usage appears to be waning; only 37 percent of the Usage Panel finds this sentence acceptable. The phrase now chiefly describes an argument based on the failings of an adversary rather than on the merits of the case: Ad hominem attacks on one's opponent are a tried-and-true strategy for people who have a case that is weak. Ninety percent of the Panel finds this sentence acceptable. The expression now also has a looser use in referring to any personal attack, whether or not it is part of an argument, as in It isn't in the best interests of the nation for the press to attack him in this personal, ad hominem way. This use is acceptable to 65 percent of the Panel. ·Ad hominem has also recently acquired a use as a noun denoting personal attacks, as in “Notwithstanding all the ad hominem, Gingrich insists that he and Panetta can work together” (Washington Post). This usage may raise some eyebrows, though it appears to be gaining ground in journalistic style. ·A modern coinage patterned on ad hominem is ad feminam, as in “Its treatment of Nabokov and its ad feminam attack on his wife Vera often border on character assassination” (Simon Karlinsky). Though some would argue that this neologism is unnecessary because the Latin word homo refers to humans generically, rather than to the male sex, in some contexts ad feminam has a more specific meaning than ad hominem, being used to describe attacks on women as women or because they are women, as in “Their recourse... to ad feminam attacks evidences the chilly climate for women's leadership on campus” (Donna M. Riley).

I wouldn't go that far; Xbot is an intelligent, reasonable (Most of the time) Moderator and I agree on what he said about Moderator's should stop banning people just because they think they was being disrespectful to them. Disagreeing = Disrespectful is False!

You're right.
But like I already said, we only removed disrespectful posts, not posts that simply disagreed with us. And we only banned when people kept refusing to take our warnings, and they were only temporary bans. Do you realize that you're only focussing on the posts where people disagreed which were deleted, and not the ones where people disagreed which were not deleted? I presume that most of you never got a chance to see those disrespectful posts that were deleted, and are only saying things based on the childish complaints of the users who have had a post of theirs deleted. So stop being ignorant; you don't see the whole situation.
