A Star Warsy Future Can't Post

Do you think anything like Star Wars could ever happen? I don't mean lightsabers and stuff, I mean being able to colonize other planets and form alliances with other intelligent beings.

The main problem I see blocking this fun view of the future are diseases. Think War of the Worlds. We would be killed from diseases that the locals would consider their "common cold" because it doesn't exist on Earth. The same goes for them if they tried to visit earth. Something along the same lines happened to the Aztecs when the Spanish Conquistadors first came to America.

I personally hope it is possible. Once we can get around the light speed barrier it could be possible. Some of you might say it's impossible to go faster than light, but a hundred years ago you'd have said its impossible to watch a "moving picture in the palm of your hand".

Easy... Just wear HazMats everywhere until it's been cleared.

But those are two entirely different things...

Taz says:
... I want tits.
Taz says:
SEND TIT TO TAZG
Taz says:
IT'S BECAUSE I'M STOOPID
Taz says:
BECAUSE I ASSED A CURTAIN

Star Wars was in the past. Not future. You are forgetting the first like that appears in the movie.

You completely bypassed my point. I don't mean star wars actually happening, I mean can we travel to other planets and mingle with the locals.

Oh. Well then, if Aliens exist, and they are of equal or a bit smarter/dumber then us then yes. But this is assuming that Aliens do exist, and have an intellectual level that has a slight difference to ours.

There's as much reason to assume that there are aliens as there is to assume that there isn't.

But then there's the issue of the Aliens having a slight Intellectual level difference. If they were mindless drones, we wouldn't be making trades with them, and if they had a much higher Intellect, then surely they'll want nothing to do with us. According to War of the Worlds, they'd probably harvest our blood for wine.

Okay... if there's intelligent alien life out there, why haven't they contacted us yet?

The same reason we don't talk to monkeys. Or have real conversations anyway. Not "Get the banana Bobo!" in a cute voice.

Or mabye, they're about on the same developmental stage as us? Or mabye their in their version of mideval times.
Or it's impossible to go faster than light and we/they can't reach us/them. But I don't like to think about that. Because it would really suck major ass.

IMHO I believe they know we are here, they're just not dumb enough to contact us until we've solved our own problems.

In the great words of Calvin and Hobbes: "Sometimes I think that the surest sign of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is the fact that none of it has tried to contact us."
