Greek Warfare. Can't Post

I think ancient Greek warfare was one of the greatest cultures in history. Their are plenty of things that make them great. A land so small dominated a land so large, so large it equaled nearly 10x their size.

I mean I just find it so amazing that even in 350-ish BC that the way they use the army and the way they tactically overcome anyone who stands in their way. Some people may think different but I still say that even before Alexander the Great ancient Greece was still pretty damn good compared to other nations.

Basically it is the greatest force in all of ancient history.

You decide whether or not this is true, or whether you agree with me.

Yes, when you take into account their time era, they're almost, if not were, more advanced then us.

Their war was a lot more different than our war. In their war you have lines, fronts, allies and enemies. In our war you can take nothing for granted. The civilian on the corner is just as likely to shoot you as the enemy. If you even know who that is.

History like that fascinates me. Like all the tactics they used in those early ages. I mean for christs sake Alexander created/improved of the most destructive siege weapons at that time that would be used for the next thousands of years. The catapult.

It was quit amazing, although I can't see this as much of a debate, it would be hard for anyone to argue with the fact they were good, ma bey not the best but good none the less.

Ahh but your not seeing what the true debate is actually about. I'm conducting a discussion and stating a public question while trying to gather others viewpoints. About ancient greek warfare and if it is truely the greatest power of that time.

Sadly, their greatness is what tore the ancient empires apart. they all thought they were better than each other and tore themselves apart from the inside out.

Meh, I beg to differ.

The Ancient Chinese Empire(The first one) was way more advanced and preceded the Greek Empire... They also invented military tactics... Sun Tzu anyone?

But they were Asian and of the kin of Karl. Thus they were of the failed second attempt at creating the perfect race by Heimdall. So, what they accomplished means little when you take into account that they cannot enter Valhalla and will not participate in Ragnarok, unless they contain at least some Aryan blood. Then they would pass through Hel's purifying flame and perhaps be reborn as a fair haired, fair skinned, and fair eyed kin of Jarl.

*ahem* He was from Macedonia not Greece, Macedonia is just to the north. But I do agree greek warfare was impressive, but i prefered roman-Barbarian/Persian/Carthage fights more, especially Hannibal and his elephants sent to invade rome.

Didn't they used to believe that you had to die in battle to get to Valhalla? I think I read that somewhere...

A lot about it is very unclear because their entire history and culture was passed down orally. It was never written down until Christian scholars came. And Christians have a way of politically skewing everything.

I found a wikipedia article on that, if only i could just find it again. It had something to do with an old man having a relationship with a teenage boy.

Who doesn't?
I like using the all-or-nothing move with the goths, it's so funny. I works quite well with people who try to get into the next age without building any significant army.
