Runescape: Why Pures? Can't Post

So I'm in a gaming mood and feel like bashing a certain popular aspect of the game...

I mean, what's the point?

Here you are, a nice main character that can use anything the game has to offer, can kill anything without too much of a problem, can make almost anything, is rich beyond belief and what do you do with it?

Ditch it for a lowbie with really crappy combat stats.

Looking at the so-called ideal pure, I have discovered that they have the following traits:

High Damage
Low Accuracy
Low Defense
Fights Almost Naked
Low Level
Always Hungry

I've fought pures before and I can tell you that they don't last long at all - say, about 3 or 4 hits (really!). Some of them get hit so hard that they don't get a chance to eat.

These things are expensive to build up, expensive to upkeep, have almost no survivability, and are mostly unwelcome in many of the miniGAMES Runescape has to offer - No, really! We change the world in Pest Control so that you pures won't get in and spoil everything by dying every 10 seconds. Why bother making them? What's the point of pures?

What? So you can say that your level 35, along with your level 32, level, 34, level, 31, and level 36 friends can kill a level 50 in the deep wildy?

You can't duel, can't DM, and can't kill half the monsters in a toe-to-toe fight. Staking is just as pointless without cutsom rules, which is kinda like scamming in my opinion (then again, you have to be stupid to drop ALL of your advantages just because your opponent wants to win).

Why bother wasting time, money, and effort in a completely inferior character and then be proud of it?

Please explain. Thanks!

So you make a Pure, and then a Skiller for the pure when you have a main that can do BOTH things much better?

Sounds like a total waste of time to me...

I thought this was the whole point of Runescape? Whoever spent longer clicking on badly drawn monsters and shooting at targets that don't move, has higher numbers and therefore wins. You click on the other guy and sit there for 5 minutes watching a repetitive "battle" and when you see that lame "bow down and disappear" animation, you win. Everybody is an inferior character except for the one who played longest.

One can say the same thing about WoW or EQ or GW or any other online game - it's pretty much the same thing, but with (much) more bells and whistles.

What is a game other than pushing and clicking to make a character do something?

Agreed, that is what every game pretty much is, but isn't that just supporting that RuneScape is in the bare bones of entertainment compared to GAMES such as EQ, GW, or WoW?

And isn't wasting time, money, and effort in something completely inferior to something else and being proud of it... what every game is?

Well considering that list, it must be hard to get a 'good' high level pure and a lot of time, isn't what all of runescape is time? Its not skills to get from level 1 attack to 99 just time maybe membership to make it faster.
Meaning you've took more time (sadly) than anyone else to make this harder to level up character.

Personally i don't see the time in skillers, pker's hybrids pures and so on. You spend all on time on one of each and then you can only use one at a time... Why not just make 1 account which can do all of that crap and be more noticable.

I mean for instance:
  • skiller -lvl 3
  • mage pure - level 63 (making it up for a good one)
  • ranger pure - 70
  • Attack Pure - 75
  • Strength Pure - 70
  • Hybrids - 70

I don't agree. Yeah, all GAMES are done by pushing and clicking, but this is like comparing the Mario-style "jump on head to kill" to Mortal Kombat. Or like in my sig, "Soldat is just PVP." There is almost nothing to a "battle" in Runescape. Right-click, attack. Wait. Wait... ... wait ... win. Yay. Or... die. Shit, there goes my st00f. Gotta play another month just to earn it back. In most MMOs, the winner of a battle is usually not determined solely by whoever killed the most rats.

Don't you have to gain experience in all MMO's to get more levels, and therefore more skills? Generally, doesn't the person with the higher level/better equipment generally win the fight?

bye.

Thing is, we're comparing two RPG's agianst each other. Runescape is an RPG and WoW's an RPG. Both are combat oriented.

As for "Who killed the most rats", well, whoever's got the better gear, tactics, skills, abilities, etc, will always win, no matter how much jumping, running, swinging, whatevering you do. That's pretty much the rule in every MMORPG PvP RPG.

Runescape's and WoW's combat system's pretty much the same - there's just a huge difference in the amount of action you see. They both fight, they both hit and deal damage, and as always, one runs away or dies. Of course, there's more than that in the middle, but that's pretty much the point.

Soldat is a First Person Shooter - a far cry to similarity of an RPG. OF COURSE Soldat is PvP online - that's the only point of a FPS. However, it's a different situation in Soldat, as they have the same equipment, starting... "stats", and fighting styles. The only thing that tops one player from another is playing skill. That's it. In a PvP RPG, you can't just win on playing skill alone.

You seem to hate Runescape a lot... and not because of the obvious reasons...

Once again Nad, not an equal comparison. Tactics and skill? Oh and even in fighting GAMES you have different sets of abilities. "Abilities" in Runescape is of course determined only by how many times you did the exact same thing... for example, to have "ability" as an archer, your only factor is one number. Shoot things 5 million times. There isn't even any challenge to it - it's simply a time consumer.

And again - you could say that about any GAMES that involve fighting.

In Reply To

The obvious reasons are the crappiness caused by the choice of using Java, but those reasons are less important than the glaring flaws in play-style. Everything is predetermined. There is no satisfaction. The fact that there are so many bots for Runescape is proof that it has terrible play-style. It's so stale and monotonous that a machine can play it.

Wrong.

Lets think. A level 70 with normal everygame stats such as.. 60 60 60? ( att,str,def) goes into the wilderness. He/she runs into a pure with 70 99 1.

Hitting with 99 str will cause alot more damage hence winning.

Runescape takes more skill than Tazg thinks, but he's not far off.

Infact the only thing strategic about fighting in that game is the special attacks and switching off of skills....which most people don't.

But seriously, if my friend didn't play, I'd never touch that game again....and that's the truth.

Back when farting around in that game was the best way to pass the most boring part of my days, I played it long enough to reach 70-something. Meanwhile I met Kasaki, at which point Internet took on a whole new meaning. But the answer to your question really isn't important. A better question would be "do you understand the mechanisms behind PVP in Runescape" to which the answer is yes, which anyone who has not even played it at all could acheive through a few afternoons of reading guides and reviews from people who have played it extensively.
