Laws against marriage of the same sex are totally unjustified. The United States Laws and Constitution were built by our forefathers in the name of FREEdom from the monarchical rule of Britain, which had not yet had the new implementations of Parliament or the Magna Carta. Yet, some of our citizens of America considered one of the things people do wrong for such reasons as disgusting and unreligious. The Christian Bible states that a man and woman are brought together under the term of marriage. However, same-sex marriage seems to "disgrace" that term. Our federal government is deciding whether these types of marriage should be lawful or unlawful. My position on the argument is that the federal government should not outlaw this type of lifestyle. The three points I will use in this essay are FREEdom, that something should not be outlawed because it is disgusting to someone, and that something should not be outlawed because it goes against a religion. My first contention on this matter is FREEdom. Our whole Declaration of Independence is based totally on FREEdom. We came out of England and fought the Revolutionary War all in the name of FREEdom. When we look upon our American Flag, we think of that word... FREEdom. Yet, some fundamentalists believe that it should be unlawful to have same-sex marriage. Okay, people. It's called "FREEdom". They have the right to do this. Just because some people say that this is disgraceful or disgusting does not mean that they can stop it. My second contention on the matter is that some citizens believe that this type of marriage is disgusting. Okay, it may seem a bit disgusting to everyone. It is disgusting to me also. But I think a lot of things are disgusting, such as mustard. Should this be outlawed because a few people think this is disgusting? No! Some people still like it in their meals. Some people still like same-sex marriage in their lives. Just because something is thought disgusting by more than 100 people, doesn't mean that it should be outlawed. My third contention on the matter is that some citizens believe that this type of marriage is unreligious. This has some ties with my attack on how people think this is a disgrace to the term, marriage. Most of the people who believe that this type of marriage is unreligious are the Christians. Christians completely believe that marriage should be limited to a man and woman, as stated by their Bible. Yet, what was one of the reasons we came to the United States? Separation of church and state! Separation of church and state means that no religion in the country should interfere with how the government works. Yet, we had this same problem in the Scopes trial. Christian fundamentalists believed that the Theory of Evolution is ungodly because it interferes with their theory on mankind's birth, Creationism. The Christian fundamentalists tried to have John Scopes arrested for teaching the Theory of Evolution to a class. History is taught so we don't face our same mistakes that we had in the past. Yet, we're facing the same problem of Christianity vs. FREEdom of Religion and Separation of Church and State again. Under the United States Constitution, FREEdom of Religion and Separation of Church and State should win, because the Constitution does not state that the Bible governs the United States. In conclusion, I would like to restate my points. FREEdom is the main reason of why our forefathers even came to the U.S. and fought the Revolutionary War is my first point. Just because people think that this form of lifestyle is disgusting doesn't mean that this should be outlawed is my second. And separation of church and state stops our U.S. Government from making decisions based on religion is my final point. These are all valid points that override much of what the anti-homosexual arguments say. So I reply, "SHUT UP, FUNDAMENTALISTS."
