Re: [coolgreencat] Stem Cells [In reply to] Can't Post

im undecided on this issue.. i gave a speech at the local city college on this last year which didnt support either side.. but instead stated the facts..
it has amazing medical potential.. im talking potentially regrowing your own vital organs.. it would eliminate the lengthy transplant lists we have today.. and save so many lives its not even funny...
but on the other side.. the best stem cells come from undeveloped embreos.. theyre the strongest and have the potential to grow into literally any part of the human body.. but you have to technically kill an unborn child to harvest them..
there is another way of acquiring stem cells.. but these dont stay alive nearly as long and are limited as to what they can produce..

so as u can see.. its incredibly immoral and unethical to harvest stem cells.. but at the same time.. equally immoral and unethical to not take this opportunity to save billions of lives

So then what do you have to say about birth clinics were they take tons of these embreos, then when the women does not want to have the kid they just get thrown away? Why not use those?

Can this be an abortion debate thread too? I know there was one already but I want to see everyone's opinions again. Then I'll start refuting people's stuff.

I don't understand why you think it is unethical, I beileve it is the parent's choice, the mother is in control of the life and can easily give it up. Is it unethical to willingly give up your offspring?

simple answer: yes

lol.. its very wrong to just toss another life aside.. but that doesnt directly apply to stem cell research.. thats more along the lines of abortion and adoption

people complain its unethical, but I dont see where the unethicalness comes in. Religious nuts (i can be religious and not be a nut) complain its against gods will, but then again they say god makes each person for a specific reason. I beleive that even with gods goodness, there is evil that causes unhealthfullness in unborns, then he creates these doctors to fix the problem (stem cell crap)

I think god created doctors and scientist to study this stuff and make the world healthier, then theres the argument that these things were supposed to do this, but if they were doctors and scientists would have no reason for doin what they do

i dont beleive in abortion tho, im against that

Re: [coolgreen44] Stem Cells/Abortion [In reply to] Can't Post

I fully support stem cell research in all it's ways. Using cells from aborted fetuses - They're already dead, they can't be brought back. May as well use them to help potentionally infinite lives instead of throwing them away. Other forms (Umbilical, Adult, Embryonic) - These are things that are going to be thrown away if not used, they MUST be used to do SOME good! Not just pollute our garbage dumps more!

Abortion. God, this is a tricky issue. I'll say it like this: If the baby has some sort of extreme birth defect that is already visible, if their is a grave risk to either the mother or baby itself, if it's a product of rape/incest, and other extreme cases, I support it. Not just some greedy slutty chick who was dump enough to get knocked up and doesn't want to face the music though, you made the baby out of your own FREE will, let it live a long and healthy life (either taking care of it, or putting it up for adoption).

This is what Stem Cell research does: Aborted enzymes used. You have a screwed up lung, hypothetically. So. Instead of fixing your lung, we grow a new one for you.

The last time I checked, killing other humans was bad. You don't get a "choice" just because you don't feel like having a kid. Put it up for adoption if you want, but aborting under the cloak of "FREEdom of choice" is nothing but an act of murder. I saw this lady's bumper sticker once that said "Against abortion? Then don't have one." It was trying to be like Maddox when he says that instead of shutting down his material to prevent the corruption of youth, the youth would be better served by simply not viewing it. This would be true if lives weren't involved. Quite simply, people are stupid. Who gives a crap if it's your body?

Use of stem cells from dead fetuses = totally okay as long as the parents are okay with it. I'd give up my dead corpse for scientific purposes too.

I took an advanced bioclass, and I learned after you use one fetus, you can use it over and over to create new cells by cloning. The process is still a little shakey, but in just a few years could work very well.
So, one frozen fetus that will everytaly die in the fridge, to save millions of lives?
Hell yes.

This is a good debate. We all know that this could help many lives but in such it is immoral and moral in different condition. Immoral if the baby is just being farmed or just made because we need it as a source of stem cell. Its moral if the baby just died and we used its stem cell to help others. This is not that different in organ donors. The difference in stem cell and organ donor is that the person have acknowledge the harvesting while in stem cell it is not.

I think the better question would be, would you willingly give your life up, completely pain-FREE, to save a person?

I say yes.

A mother who has had an abortion. Deserves to die. So does the doctor that performed it.

Name one thing that embroyentic stem cells have cured? I know they say there is potential, but to my knowledge they have caused more tumors than actually helpful benifits.

There have been break throughs with Adult stem cells and umblical cord cells. Why do we need to harvest unborn babies? Don't liberals kill enough innocent babies everyday, sitting at around 4k a day now I have read, that is way to many imho
