The Christmas Spirit Can't Post

Have we lost it? And by the way, if you celebrate Hanukkah or some other season festive event, I just mean the festive season.

bye.

There is no Christmas spirit now. It's all about the presents people care. You can constantly say "Christmas is about family." LOL. You only care about what's under the wrapping paper branded with your name.

Screw Christmas. Screw the winter spirit. Screw the vile bastards in marketing who start the 'Christmas season' before Thanksgiving.

I just want my five week break.

I think the commecialism defines the Christmas spirit. If everyone is so concerend with whats under the wrapping, then why do we spend hours searching for that perfect gift? I mean, I look forward to seeing my friends open their gifts as much I am anxious to open mine. Christmas is about the presents, it works both ways. If you bought a gift for someone this year, than you know the feeling.

bye.

Yes, I have christmas savings, and I bought all my 17 and under cousins gifts. And believe me, I have a LOT of cousins. Yeah, I do get excited. But the feeling of searching hours for the perfect gift is because you wanna make sure that no one dislikes your gift, naturally. You want the feeling that you did something, and you got something in return. Otherwise, even if you got an excellent gift from them, it'll be boring because you felt that you screwed up.

Truthfully now, would you have purchased those gifts if your cousins weren't going to buy you anything back?

You said you got excited when the opened up a gift, but only because you wanted them to like their gift as much as you liked the one you got from them. I think people just want to show that they were thinking of the person just as much as the other person thought of them. Reciprocal love.

bye.

Well see. Only some actually do have fun when they only give. But America's spoiled. I don't have trouble believing that you feel that way, but I'm spoiled. I'm pretty rich. I get a lot of stuff easily. So I know that I only enjoy giving because I want them to like their gifts as much as mine. And knowing many people, it's the same way. That's what made me come to that conclusion.

Re: [neocloud101] The Christmas Spirit [In reply to] Can't Post

Rich people. People with more money will generally get more presents right? People with TONS of money will get whatever the hell they like. In fact, the people with piles of it would be unimpressed with a 72'' TV or a Motorbike for Christmas. But it's the gift that makes them smile that will mean the most to them. I got a wallet last year, by far my favourite gift. Why? My aunt photocopied a few hundred dollar bills (Illegal, actually) and put them in my wallet. I opened it up, and got fooled. I liked it better than the video game and chocolates I got, just because i made me smile.

If you go Christmas shopping, and you ask someone what they want, you buy it and wrap it you don't get the same level of satisfaction you get if you put some creativity in a gift. That drive to be creative is in a sense, the Christmas spirit. I remember my cousin getting a can of soup. But then he looked under the wrapping paper to see hi favourite magazine. I remember my mom trying to open a box that bear could've slept in. It was about as large as my dining room table. It takes her half an hour to find a pair of earrings tucked away in a tiny bag in the corner. I remember these gifts over all the others, because they made me smile.

bye.

The possible causes for the loss of Christmas spirit:
  1. Commercializm
  2. Capitalization
  3. Pack of non-Christians
  4. Lack of believing
  5. Lack of decorations.
And Christmas is originally meant to celebrate the supposed birthday of Jesus Christ. The suburb I live in has hardly decorations, except the urban. However I see decorations for sale at retailers like Myer.

I'm not Christian. Don't really believe in Jesus. I like Xmas because I get a Holiday, I get to enjoy myself and (ofc) I get presents. It could be Rammadan for all I care, as long as these things are included I'll pretend to celebrate it.

Who is We? Lots of people have it, most people don't. There is not much else to say, so this thread is probably going to go off-topic and become redundant by talking about something that's already in another thread.

EDIT:

People as a general majority. And I was planing on introducing this a little later on in the discussion, but whatever. What about the political correct-o-phobia around Christmastime? Some of my friends on the job have to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. A provincial courthouse here in Ontario got a ruling that it had to take it's Christmas tree down because it needs to be un-biased. Do we have to be welcoming the other Christmastime festivities and ditch our own?

bye.

They removed 15 Christmas trees from a Seattle airport, because some ass-holes claimed it was "offensive".

...

How the crap is a tree offensive?

Yes, we lost it.
