I think that once we get used to our comfortable position at the top of the food chain, after we kill off every single living thing on the planet we will start to grow lazy, apathetic, greedy, stupid and fat. Then an asteroid, nuclear war or natural disaster will hit earth so hard, there will be only 10,000 people left to populate the planet with a new generation of advanced humans.

If we kill off every living creature, the economy would crash, food chains would be disrupted, the world would be in chaos. We wouldn't have to wait for an asteroid.
