Global Warming

It's currently -1 degrees with a wind chill of -21. Send some my way ;-;

Global Warming is named strangely - it's named for the cause rather than the effect. The effect of global warming is climate change - unusual weather patterns, modified rainfall situations, flooding, hurricanes, drought, more winter storms, etc.

The cause is Global Warming due to CO2; the result is a number of unpredictable things. Things like disease due to stagnant water, lost farmland, war over what farmland is left, cattle catastrophes, etc.

Oh. Well then nevermind.

2. CO2? Humans don't ingest CO2...We release it. Not sure though; I'm not a medical doctor, and unlike some conservatives that will claim they're climate experts, I won't claim that I am.

CO2 is part of the air we breathe. We just take the Oxygen out of it, and release more CO2 when we breathe out. Trees do the opposite. If the PPM of CO2 in the air we breathe increases past 400, it is deemed unhealthy. The chart that Al Gore was toting predicted that in 50 years the PPM will increase to a value of around 600 PPM. We would have to decrease the PPM by 200 to make the air healthily breathable. I would have to do some ridiculous reasearch, but I bet you 'cutting down' on CO2 emissions will do little to help, even though the idea is technically good.

Check out the CO2 wikipedia article.

bye.

Hm, makes sense.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be cutting emissions and doing all those things - unbreathable air is probably fixable (more trees, etc.) but the damage of hurricanes, floods, wildfires, droughts, etc. is far more damaging.

Where are you getting this 'We can't do anything effective anyway' argument? Sean Hannity? Reducing CO2 emissions worldwide would help tremendously. I'm sure the same was said about Ozone depletion and CFCs.

Let's see your other conservative talking points, sluggo.

I was gonna say something but I forgot...

Oh, right.

A radical way (that will never happen) to reduce CO2 would be to halt all industry and automotive activity until a reasonable concensus is reached on how to combat global warming. Thus preventing further damage until a solution is reached.

But it will never happen because there is money to be made.

put a giant balloon on every c02 emitting device and tie it off whe it gets full. Then, put it all into one giant balloon and send it into the sun

...

Or you could just reduce emissions by using technology we already have...

Believe it or not, some of the alternatives DO involve storing CO2. There are some people who believe we could store massive amounts of CO2 underground in caverns(I read an article about this and believe it or not there are enough airtight MASSIVE caverns around the world to store around 20% of the atmosphere). Then we wait for the day when we can perfect fusion technology and build giant rail guns(hold with me here) with acceleration tubes over 3km which will launch the giant ferrous canisters of compressed CO2 into space.

But I don't support this idea... No idea why I brought it up... I guess I just wanted to say the word "rail guns"...

Seriously though. We've been putting off out problems long enough. In fact it's been too long. We need to do something about the problem now, not bury the problem underground or continue to ignore it.
