Xbot's latest attempt at something Can't Post

Computer tech isn't working out to be Xbot's career. I've decided to search other avenues of careers, and decided to fall back on my old fifth grade goal, and have been building on it mentally for awhile.

At this point, I'm working on building a career in politics. I'm giving up my job in computer repair this Summer, and doing some community work, especially in the realm of Global Warming prevention. I know this issue needs to be brought to my community.

As of now, my current big plan is to try to present An Inconvenient Truth to churches and any other place nearby that is willing to hear the message of our generation's biggest plight.

I've contacted a local church, but I'm not very assured that I'll get a spot to present - my contact in that church told me they try not to push issues. I think I might actually stop by there one day and see if I can give a presentation to them, and assure them this is something churchgoers or otherwise want and need to know.

Also, I'm looking for other ideas to spread words that need to be spread: Send me an email with your ideas. Good deeds often require more than one mind.

You can email me at foe{removethis}hammer[(at])gmail(dot)com

A revised version of this post is also posted on my blog.

Global Warming is such an bad issue. I mean we've nearly 5 times the amount of global warming since the begining of the 1900's. This is a serious issue. And something needs to be done about it. That fact that children in different places aren't receiving snow at all on Christmas. The past two years have really changed for global warming. It's had gone up what 2 degrees on our average in the last so n' so years. That's may not seem like alot but it truely is. It determinds whether or not it will rain or snow, or snow and shine. It's becoming whether or not you seem to like it, a worse and worse problem every day.

I've seen an Inconvenient Truth, and I've thought of all the consequences. Trust me, I know it's a problem, and I intend on trying to convince others to help fix it. We need to be contacting our representatives and telling them to get something done - to start with, we need to get the Climate Reduction Act introduced by Sandy Berger passed. Then we need to get Kyoto retried and passed, among many many other things.

We need to sell green technology to China so we can silence those that say going green means going red too; then we need to force the auto companies to move to cleaner technologies. Encourage your local gas stations to move to E85. E85 is not a final solution, it's a step on the way, because, like a meth addiction, we need something along the way to get us off the habit.

Any ideas to spread this message to my community? I'm not sure on how to proceed; but I will find a way to be active and get involved. I know I'm convincing, I know I can fit schedules in, I know I can prepare and do speeches, and all those things.

I just need ideas.

It would have to state that it is us at a group, not just individuals. We need people to know we as one need help. In fact. We would need to branch out to other sites. Other forums like something awful. Our friends, classmates. Hell, we would need a lot of people to convince the stubborn government. Hold on... What's that one petition site? Care1? They have been successful in the past. We could get help from them to.

Grassroots are always very successful. Grassroots campaigns that make their communities green will encourage other communities to do the same. Our congressmen and women are deaf and blind - with our corporate masters covering their eyes, bringing corporate propoganda to their ears.

Our grassroots, however, still remain untainted. If we work from there, we have a better chance. It'd be easy to mount a massive internet campaign to encourage people to help out in their communities. Maybe give some promotional materials, see if we can get some donations to buy some An Inconvenient Truth DVDs to hand out.

Since this month is Black History Month, we saw this video about what they called "The March of the Kids" or something like that. It was about the big Birmingham incident. Thousands of kids lined up just to get arrested. Now, since there was a lot of kids putting themselves in danger, the president couldn't bare to watch it. He ended segregation there. Now, the thing was is that these people came from mass. They were not just from that city, they came from all over. If we could enough people, we may just unclog the government's ears.

Over 100,000 people protested in January against escalation in Iraq in D.C.

When asked, Snowjob said that the president hadn't really been paying attention...

I imagine we'll get more of the same from the house/senate with that respect.

Plus, segregation was easy to protest: Be black and go somewhere you weren't supposed to go. It's harder to get arrested for protesting global warming...

Al Gore's doing fine as an informer. He doesn't need to be wasting his time pandering to bases and/or governing. That's Obama's job. His is to inform more people, as should be mine and others.

I wish more people in my community thought the same...

Yep yep. Obama Sez:

"We now know without a doubt that global warming is threatening us with higher temperatures, more drought, more wildfire, more flooding, and more erosion of our coastal communities. People who don't believe this can yell about it as loudly as they want, but it doesn't change the fact that the overwhelming scientific evidence and even the administration's own State Department have proven this over and over again. We must act now with the rest of the world to curb emissions so that we can leave our children a safer, healthier planet."

And more:

"Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) today on President Bush energy policy: ``This is not a serious effort. Saying that America is addicted to oil without following a real plan for energy independence is like admitting alcoholism and then skipping out on the 12-step program. It's not enough to identify the challenge - we have to meet it.''"

His speech in its entirity is also listed.

Recommended reading for Xbot: State of Fear by Michael Crichton.

It is a book that has a fictional story with concerning global warming, with real facts that shoot it down as a misinterpretation. That the earth is warming up still from the last Ice Age. All facts stated are directly cited as footnotes. Excellent book.

Go watch An Inconvenient Truth.

It's true that Terra does go through these cycles, but when you look at the ice record you can tell that the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere and the atmospheric temperature is WAY over norm even at the tip of the normal cycle.

Also, there hasn't been a single peer-reviewed journal article supporting the people who claim it's all a hoax.

Debunking "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton

Also, just to add to the above: Michael Crowley, The New Republic editor, debunked some more of Crichton's junk science. After that, Crichton wrote him in his book, Next, as the rapist of a two year old. Linky

As for the excuse of cycles, actually do take a look at An Inconvenient Truth. Gore has this chart that goes back 1,500 years of actual peer-reviewed science data that shows temperature levels over the past 1,500 years. He shows us the last warming period: and it looks nothing like the massive warming period we're experiencing now.

Video of that here

On the DVD he has a larger chart that shows 650,000 years back, also showing similar results to the 1,500 sample.

What is it going to take for you to understand what danger our generation is in?

That was neat-o. The recommended CO2 PP ingestion number for a healthy person is no more than 400ppm. If the number raises as high as Al Gore's boys suggest (500ppm and over), we will all be dead anyways. It's all well and good to cut emissions, but to cut enough to reduce the CO2 levels by 200ppm, and then more in the coming years, would likely kill society. If it goes that high, we are dead whether when cut, or dead if when we don't.

What did the inconvenient truth video suggest we do about it?

1. There's a larger book that debunks the entire "State of Fear"

2. CO2? Humans don't ingest CO2...We release it. Not sure though; I'm not a medical doctor, and unlike some conservatives that will claim they're climate experts, I won't claim that I am.

3. If by 'it' you mean the dangerous CO2 levels, there's a lot of solutions, but the general idea is to reduce CO2 levels.

Check the ClimateCrisis website for specific suggestions, including a calculator that helps you suggest how much CO2 you're pumping into the atmosphere (artifically, of course), and how to make yourself carbon-neutral (you don't necessarily have to, as that might be above the normal expense, but there are a lot of expense-saving tips there too, and relatively hceap suggestions to reduce your CO2 emission levels).

Gore is awesome.

No, but I'm saying that there have been ZERO peer reviewed scientific journals supporting the claim that Global Warming has been misinterpreted and over 600 have been published supporting the theory that it IS a serious problem.
