A new Texas law requires schoolgirls to be vaccinated against HPV Conservatives cried fowl, claiming it encouraged sex; but then again, so does abstinence-only education. Some liberals, even, are crying fowl: Perhaps it's a violation of fourth amendment rights. This disease doesn't seem as serious as other diseases that in the past have gotten the same widespread distribution of a vaccine. I think it would've been better to offer government-funded vaccinations at various clinics - that'd be more helpful, and not in violation of anyone's rights. The big problem I have with this law is the reason it was done: The governor of Texas has clear ties to the pharmaceutical industry - raking in millions of "donations" from them to his campaigns. Oh, hurray. What do you think?
