I DARE YOU TO BUMP THIS THREAD

On the heavily besieged planet of Vanaheim, last stronghold and territory of House Cavanagh, Lord Pheylan Cavanagh sits in his throne room, looking onward at the doors in deep thought. The throne room is beset by a red glow from the fires of the destruction outside, and the usually elaborate decorations are in shambles. The Captain of his Royal Guard, along with a few brave soldiers and other assorted members of his entourage are assembled there with him, as several of them attempt to bar the large doors that lead to the throne room. Within moments a slamming noise can be heard from the direction of the door as enemy soldiers from outside attempt to force it open.

Royal Guard Captain: Hold the gates! We shall let not one man into this throne room! As long as each of us draws breath, this room remains secure!

Lord Cavanagh: They will, however, breach the doors, and we will inevitably die.

Royal Guard: Every man here will give his life to keep that from happening, Milord.

The men outside continue to batter the doors, and it is apparent that they will not hold for much longer. The long and bloody feud that would lead to this final stand began five years earlier as House Cavanagh assisted a fellow Great House in assaulting the nuclear stockpiles of House La Fraga. They succeeded in wiping out the garrison they had in place there and confiscating the nuclear weapons there. They were later used to bombard several La Fraga worlds in a seemingly unprovoked string of aggressive actions towards House La Fraga. Now, after five long years of war, it seemed that House Cavanagh had been battered ruthlessly by La Fraga's Sardaukar. The only remaining members were within Pheylan's Throne Room. Kolchin, Lord Cavanagh's bodyguard, came from a small door to the side of the throne room.

Kolchin: The series of caves you thought of using as an escape route have been caved in, either intentionally or otherwise, from the battle.

Lord Cavanagh: Then we are doomed.

Kolchin: You must not lose hope, Milord. We will survive this yet.

Lord Cavanagh: That's doubtful, Kolchin.

The doors become severely close to giving way. Just as this happens, Lord Cavanagh's mind is suddenly filled with thoughts of anger and pride.

Lord Cavanagh: He has dared to wrong me and my House in so many ways... and now he would invade my homeworld and enter MY throne room?!

The doors are pounded upon once more. Lord Cavanagh rises up from his throne with a scowl on his face and knocks over a nearby font. His hand moves to his side and he draws his sword.

Lord Cavanagh: Do you want my throne, you usurping bastard?! Then take it!

The rest of Lord Cavanagh's men draw their swords and ready themselves for the doors to be blown open. Two men rush up to try and brace them.

Royal Guard Captain: Brothers in arms! It has been a honor to serve with each and every one of you! If this is to be our end, then it is a glorious one and I welcome it with sword in hand! Let them not forget House Cavanagh, and it's warriors!

By now, Lord Cavanagh had allowed the bloodlust to fully overcome him.

Lord Cavanagh: In hatred was this house forged, and in hatred shall it fall! Come forth, Sardaukar and allow me to bathe myself in your blood!

Cavanagh's men shout, just as the doors fly open and a host of Sardaukar rush in with sinister blades in hand and death upon their minds.

Lord La Fraga looked over the burning planet below him with a deep sadness. He stood on the deck of the Sojourn, over looking the destruction of Vega Prime. The last stronghold of Lord Pheylan Cavanagh would be his grave. The Sudocar rushed the planet surface killing the opposition and leaving no mercy; as was the way of revenge.

Lord La Fraga: And so house Cavanagh falls�
With it burning underneath my feet

Second Commander Drizzt: Sir, Vega in flames and the storming of the palace is in progress. Death is the only thing that awaits Lord Pheylan

Lord La Fraga: Is that so?

Then why do I get the feeling this is not the end of Cavanagh?

Commander Drizzt: Sir?

Lord La Fraga: Nothing, Continue the assault and do not hold back, show them the same prudence they showed when the bombed three ring worlds of House La Fraga into radioactive dust.

In the place throne room the battle raged. Pheylan drove by his anger and pride took hits and sword slashes in stride as he cut down his foes. However, it was only a matter of time before even he was overcome by the squads of soldiers. And the Sudocar hadn�t even showed up yet�

Lord Cavanagh: Come at me you bastards! Meet my blade!

Kolchin: (cuts down soldier) Sir, their number grow by the second!

Lord Cavanagh: We will fight to the death if we must!!

But as Cavanagh spoke these words, the soldiers stopped and retreated. The defenders of House looked around in aroused concern. Then at the doorway stood a squad of soldiers in pure black armor with white strips running down the length; all wore the insignia of the dragon. All of them carried short sabers, plasma rifles, and on their back standard issue La Fraga high scope sniper rifles. There were six of them and all looked identical except for one. He walked to the front of the squad from the back with a white cape on and pulled off his helmet.

Kolchin: Sudocar�

Captain Tobin: Well Met, Kolchin

Kolchin: Well Met, Tobin

Captain Tobin: Looks like I can repay that favor now doesn�t it?

Kolchin smiled�

The Sardaukar defectors and remnants of Lord Cavanagh's House made their way down the halls of the ruined fortress that was once Lord Cavanagh's stronghold.

Colonel Tobin: We have a dropship not far from here. We can take that into orbit and board one of the smaller assault craft. We'll take that to wherever you feel is safe.

Lord Cavanagh: Very well.

They made their way down the hall and into a large room where a squad of Sardaukar were setting up a perimeter.

Sardaukar Captain: The defectors!

The Sardaukar opened fire on them as they ran for cover and returned fire. Cavanagh's Royal Guard Captain and several others of his Royal Guard attempted the charge the Sardaukar line and were cut down by plasma rifle fire. Meanwhile, one of the defectors managed to make his way around the room and got the drop on the Sardaukar with his sniper rifle. He was able to down most of them before they turned and shot him. Then only two remained and as their fire was divided they were cut down.

Captain Tobin: We need to move quickly before more of them start showing up. We won't last long against Sardaukar.

They fought their way down to the hangar area where several dropships were sitting, relatively unguarded save for some green recruits. They were easily dispatched and the defectors and Cavanagh's remaining men boarded one of the dropships. They flew out of the hangar and out of the atmosphere into open space.

Captain Tobin: Request permission to board the nearest assault transport.

Lord Cavanagh: No... we are boarding La Fraga's flagship.

Captain Tobin: That would be suicide.

Lord Cavanagh just stared sternly out of the viewport for a moment. Then he accessed some schematics on a nearby panel. He finally spoke.

Lord Cavanagh: You will report that you have taken me and my party as prisoners. La Fraga will most likely want to see us immediately and have you deliver us directly to his ship. Being Sardaukar, you will have FREEdom of movement while we are being interrogated or as we sit in a cell. You will use this FREEdom to place several charges in several structurally weak points I have isolated in his flagship. Once they are in place, we will need to be extracted to from wherever we are being held. Then we can procure a ship and get out of there, and then proceed to blow it all to hell.

Captain Tobin: We will have to be as inconspicuous as possible to avoid catching any susipcion, but we'll work that out later. Your plan is sound, if dangerous. Comm, open a channel to the Sojourn and inform them of our "cargo."

The Sojourn hailed the small craft called the Ramira and locked midpoints. Captain Tobin escorted Lord Cavanagh and his entourage on to the main deck of the Sojourn; the Sudocar already on board looked on in envy of Tobin. Tobin, Kolchin, and Cavanagh were brought to the main deck to meet La Fraga and the rest were taken to the holding cells for interrogation. Standing outside the main blast doors, the guards looked Tobin and his �prize� up and down.

Tobin: Alright, lets us onto the main deck

Black Sudocar Ops: Alright, just let me test them to see if they are planning anything

The Sudocar Ops moves toward Lord Cavanagh
Noticing the immediate danger, Kolchin try�s to play a mind trick he learned some time ago. At first it looks as if the Ops had forgotten what he was doing, and then he shakes his head.
The Ops then turned and smiled

Black Sudocar Ops: Do not attempt that again, it�s been quite sometime since you�ve been in the Ops Kolchin. We learned from you well, now it�s time to examine�

Tobin grabs his arm

Tobin: They can�t do anything as it is; the ship is full of Sudocar
This is just wasting La Fraga�s time

The Sudocar Ops appears to think about it and shakes his head.

Black Sudocar Ops: I don�t think so Captain, have you forgotten who you captured?
This Lord Cavanagh he would not let himself be caught so easily! Let me do Th...

There was a loud crunching noise as a blast door to the opposite side opened and a tall dark skinned man walked up to procession. Then everyone turned to Drizzt Van Jero; brother and advisor to Lord La Fraga. His face was stern with distaste and he seemed not to notice anyone but the Ops.

Drizzt: What�s taking so long Kasades?

Kasades: I have to conduct the test to see�

Drizzt: Never mind that, Lord Fraga wants them in here now

Kasades turned back to the small group and with one sweeping motion opened the large blast doors. In the Center stood Lord Reven La Fraga, leader of house La Fraga and son of previous leader Mwu La Fraga.

Lord La Fraga: Looks like old times�eh Cavanagh?

Meanwhile, Captain Tobin proceeded to excuse himself and his men so that they could plant the proton charges throughout the ship.

Kasades: I have new orders for you and your squad, Tobin. You're to report to--

Tobin cut him off as he discharged a plasma pistol at his abdomen. The man clenched his stomach then fell to the ground, dead. Tobin then turned to his men.

Captain Tobin: Alright, we're going to have to split up and get this done as fast as possible. Kelborn, I want you and Xarga to plant the proton charge at site A. Kex and Jaster are to take site B. Bralor, you're with me, we'll be taking the last site.

They all nodded and proceeded to their duties immediately. Elsewhere, on the bridge of the Sojourn...

Lord La Fraga: I have but one question Cavanagh: Why?

Lord Cavanagh: Why? Why did we destroy entire planets under your protection, kill millions of innocent people? I think you know this better than anyone.

Lord La Fraga: We did nothing to provoke such an attack! You know as well as I that our fathers were great allies when both of their houses were in peril.

Lord Cavanagh: Yes, and you betrayed that trust the day you attacked Galidraan.

Lord La Fraga: What? We did no such thing.

Lord Cavanagh: By the time I arrived with my task force, everyone there was already dead. And although they barely put up a fight, I found the bodies of a few of your soldiers there. They wore uniforms of House La Fraga. And those weren't the only bodies I found. There were also the scattered remains of thousands of people. Honest hard-working farmers, retired soldiers, small children, women... All dead. Some were burned alive, others were stabbed, or mangled in some way. It was nothing more than a massive extermination of all life on that planet. And you did not even have the decency to kill them all painlessly. You made every person on that planet suffer. And now you have crippled my military power, all but destroyed the planets under my control, and came to my homeworld and killed everyone. And here I am.

Lord La Fraga: I never ordered such an attack.

Lord Cavanagh: Do not insult me with your lies!

Lord La Fraga: I swear to you on my honor that I did not order that attack.

Lord Cavanagh: Your honor means nothing to me, you have destroyed any honor House La Fraga once held.

Lord La Fraga: But--

Lord Cavanagh: No more of your words! You may have destroyed all that I ever had, but know that you will fall for it.

Just then the ship rocked violently, and the bridge doors opened. Tobin and his men rushed in and stabbed the two Sardaukar door guards to death, then sealed the blast doors and locked them.

Captain Tobin: Good day, Milord La Fraga. We'll be handling bridge operations from here on out.

Lord La Fraga: Tobin, you traitorous bastard!

Tobin's men proceeded to shoot all of the bridge officers at their stations. Some of them ran for cover, but there was little to be found and they paid for their defiance. The Captain moves over to Cavanagh and Kolchin and gives them their confiscated weapons back. They then proceed to disarm La Fraga and Drizzt.

Lord Cavanagh: What was the explosion a moment ago?

Captain Tobin: One of our charges detonated prematurely.

Lord Cavanagh: Will we be able to destroy this ship with what's left?

Captain Tobin: I am afraid not, but now that we have the bridge other "options" are available to us.

Lord Cavanagh: Right. Activate the self-destruct sequence, silent countdown, thirty minutes.

Tobin nodded to Kelborn and he proceeded to activate it. Cavanagh turned to La Fraga.

Lord Cavanagh: Now, I have some questions for you, my Lord.

Entrapped within his own ship Reven La Fraga stood on the deck of the Sojourn. Surrounded by his enemies and deceived by his second squad captain Tobin, Reven was in essence doomed�

Lord La Fraga: Ask away then

Lord Cavanagh: The same question you asked me, why would you destroy over 100 years of house relations in a flash?

Lord La Fraga: As I stated I did not commence the attack, I give you my word that was not the way of it

Lord Cavanagh: And what do you know of trust La Fraga? I found the bodies of your soldiers there

Lord La Fraga eyebrows raised and shook his head

Lord La Fraga: Those were imposters dressed like my men. I know who did commit the act however�

Lord La Fraga turned his head toward Drizzt ever slightly and Drizzt nodded. Under his breath Drizzt said, �Understood�.

Drizzt: It was Captain Sulio�s brigand and fleet; dressed as our men, we have the footage in our main console. Also, we have reason to believe Sulio plans to destroy House La Fraga too, since we did their work for them with your House. Had we had this information before, we would have never attacked your homeworld�

Lord Cavanagh: And how am I to trust the man who has destroyed my main fortress?

Lord La Fraga: Simple, we�re are being attacked by them now

The bridge then shook violently and the COM link roared with chatter from around the ship, as the Sojourn came under heavy attack. The Sudocar franticly scrambled to save the ship as it rocked from the vicious attack. Then the COM link opened, and Captain Sarah Sulio stood smiling with a smug look on her ugly face.

Captain Sulio: The Imperial Senate sends its regards boys. I must say you made this too easy La Fraga, nothing like your old man eh?

Lord La Fraga: Oh you�d be surprised

In a flash Reven La Fraga back kicked those holding him and Drizzt moved around Tobin and started choking him with his chains. Hitting his chains against the main console (most likely putting it in worse shape than it already was) Reven FREEd himself and pulled one of the guns off the soldiers around him. Drizzt, pulled hard and despite his best efforts Tobin finally succumbed. Pulling the key from his pocket, Drizzt unlocked his cuffs. Sulio looked on in bewilderment and Cavanagh felt a small smile pull across his lips.

Lord La Fraga: I do hope you survive this too Cavanagh, I could use your help in killing this bitch

With a wave, Reven and Drizzt ran out of the main room and the ship rocked still ever closer to doom. Kolchin moved to go after them but was stopped by Cavanagh.

Lord Cavanagh: We have no time for them, we need leave now!

Captain Sulio: You�ll die here!

Lord Cavanagh: (turns to her) we�ll find out wont we? Eh Shutta?

With that last insult, Cavanagh and Kolchin ran to find a way out. The anger of Sulio left on the main deck.

Tobin came to as they ran out of the bridge.

Captain Tobin: Augh. Kelborn, where are you?

Kelborn: Here sir. Should we not follow Lord Cavanagh?

Captain Tobin: We will catch them soon enough. First we need to make a statement. I want you to deactivate the self destruct and plot a course for the bridge of Sulio's ship.

Kelborn: (smiling) Yes sir.

Kelborn ran over to a nearby bridge console and plotted the course as the rest of the men regained their wits.

Kelborn: I have plotted the course, Captain.

Captain Tobin: Reroute all power to thrusters, and engage.

Within a few moments Kelborn had done this. He then nodded. The ship rocked again.

Captain Tobin: Let's go.

Tobin pulled out a comlink and signaled Lord Cavanagh.

Captain Tobin: Lord Cavanagh, where are you?

Lord Cavanagh: (some static) We are making our way to the hangar nearest the bridge, there are several fast attack craft and an assault transport there. Kolchin and I will take the fighters, get your men to the transport as soon as possible. We'll rendevouz at the coordinates I am sending you now.

Captain Tobin: Alright. Tobin out.

Tobin deactivated the comlink and he and his men proceeded to the hangar. By the time they arrived Cavanagh and Kolchin were already gone. They boarded the assault transport and left the hangar. Meanwhile, on the bridge of Sulio's ship...

Helmsman: La Fraga's ship is on an intercept course with our ship and it's flying so fast that it's falling apart!

Captain Sulio: Time to intercept?!

Helmsman: Fifteen seconds!

Captain Sulio: Hard to port! Brace for impact!

Helmsman: Too late!

The helmsman barely got those words out before the bow of the Sojourn slammed into Sulio's bridge in a spectacular display. A few of the support ships in Sulio's small armada saw this and meshed out quickly. Cavanagh saw this from his fast attack fighter and smiled faintly. He hailed Tobin.

Lord Cavanagh: Tobin, did you all make it out of there?

Captain Tobin: Yes, we managed to escape without incident. I hope you enjoyed our little display back there.

Lord Cavanagh: I did, at that. We're going to regroup at Agamar, General Vaklu's fortress world. He promised us asylum for helping him all those years ago. I'd say now is as good of a time as any.

Captain Tobin: Right. We'll see you there.

Having escaped from his �friend� Cavanagh Lord La Fraga stood silently watching space fly by on the small shuttle Famfrit. Drizzt controlled the ship as it headed to the La Fraga home world of Hansonador. Reven La Fraga thought over the events that just transpired and shook his head grimly. �Indeed, it was a long shot�

Drizzt: We will arrive at Hansonador, in 3 hours brother

However Reven was not listening, he could already see it in his mind. �There was no way Hansonador will be standing by the time we reach it. Will House La Fraga meet the same fate as that of Cavanagh? And why was this war staged in the first place? Had the Senate truly feared us so; the last of great houses?

Reven: Will another planet burn underneath my feet?

Drizzt: (turns around) Sir?

Reven: Nothing, keep course at maximum speed�Hansonador awaits

Having finally reached the lylat system the Famfrit bolted toward the home world. To the relief of La Fraga, the planet seemed untouched, but something was amiss�

Reven: Hail that blockade; I want to get into my planet

Drizzt: Hailing Sir

Drizzt computed quickly as a COM link opened suddenly and a member of the grand Senate spoke.

High Senator Gaston: You are under determent of the Vanguard for treason

Reven: Treason! What�s the meaning of this?

High Senator Gaston: There is no reason to explain such things to a criminal COM link out

Unable to answer back Reven turned to Drizzt who already was shaking his head

Drizzt: they have us in warp status, we�re going down

Reven: Out of the frying pan and into the hellfire�

Lord Cavanagh's group meshed in near the planet Agamar within minutes of each other. They assumed a standard orbit around the planet and opened a channel to the capitol.

Lord Cavanagh: I wish to speak with Grand General Vaklu immediately.

Receptionist: May I inquire as to who is asking?

Lord Cavanagh: No.

Receptionist: Very well... I'll patch you through.

General Vaklu appeared on the screen within moments.

General Vaklu: Cavanagh! I heard about what happened to your homeworld. A terrible shame. I've always known you as a man of ambition, and apparently the La Fraga's couldn't handle that.

Lord Cavanagh: Things are a bit different than that, but we can work that all out later. For right now I'd like to request clearance to land and asylum.

General Vaklu: Alright. You're clear to land at docking pad 183-23B. I'll see you momentarily.

Cavanagh's group of ships flew down into the atmosphere of the lush green planet of Agamar. They made their way into the sprawling city of Bandomeer and landed at the designated site. There to greet them was General Vaklu and his personal cadre of guards.

General Vaklu: Haha! How are you my old friend?

Lord Cavanagh: Could be better.

General Vaklu: Ah, yes, of course. Well I wouldn't worry too much as of now. I have received some word that upon Lord La Fraga's return to his homeworld he was met with an Imperial blockade and arrested. I doubt he'll be much of a threat to anyone for too much longer.

Lord Cavanagh: This does not bode well for me at all.

General Vaklu: What? Why?

Lord Cavanagh: I should explain more once we reach your citadel.

They then boarded an atmospheric shuttle and entered a small hangar in Vaklu's citadel. They exited the shuttle and made their up to his command center and all sat around a holo-projector.

Captain Tobin: Shall we continue our conversation?

Lord Cavanagh: Right. Now, I have reason to believe that the Empire is trying to exterminate the last of the Great Houses. I have been told that the attack on Galidraan was carried out by Imperial soldiers dressed in La Fraga uniforms. This then caused me to retaliate against him and completely wipeout several strategically important planets of his. He then responded by completely obliterating my forces in open war, leaving nothing but one or two peaceful rural planets with nothing but minor garrisons on them. Then, as I attempted to interrogate him aboard his flagship, a certain Captain Sulio attacked us under orders from the Imperial Senate. We both escaped, and I came here to you. Now you tell me that he has been arrested and his homeworld is blockaded.

General Vaklu: This seems larger than anyone had expected. We all knew the Senate and the last of the Houses Major had disagreements, but...

Lord Cavanagh: Yes, and without those planets that I destroyed, La Fraga has no hope of launching an offensive to retake his homeworld, should he even escape.

Kolchin: We need to plan our next offensive very carefully.

Lord Cavanagh: I want to open a subspace channel to Governor Beltane on Balmorra. I have a rather large order to place. We also need to contact the Baron Sebaytine. I fear his House may be next in this long line of unfortunate events.

Lord La Fraga stood speechless. He looked toward his brother, who looked similarly distressed and confused. The High Senators faces did not change with this call to his justice, it was readily apparent that they believed wholeheartedly what they said. And still his advisors would not look him in the eye

Reven: This is truly madness
You cannot mean this! Where is your proof?

At that moment Grand Senator Rufio stood from his chair and moved his finger in a sweeping and complex motion. From this signal the contra of operators initiated the holo-projector. Upon the projector the death of the Cavanagh home world showed. At the palace stood, in all his regality Lord Redendal accompanied by Cavanagh. The feed was then broken as a squad of Black Sudocar entered the room lead by second squad captain Tobin. As the feed cut, the evidence was there and La Fraga speechless.

Grand Senator Rufio: With this damning evidence, what can you say La Fraga? Not only did you destroy another Great House, but in the process killed Emperor Calandine�s son. I am sure you know the penalty for a crime upon this heinous level?

Reven: This cannot be! He was not there! There was only Cavanagh!

Grand Senator Rufio: Then where is the Emperor�s only son!? You have no way to refute this. Unless the emperor�s son or Cavanagh shows up, in two days you will be dead Lord La Fraga

Drizzt: We did no such thing! We only fought back! Captain Sulio is the real criminal here!

High Senator Gaston: That is quite enough, Captain Sulio is the one who gave us this footage, from which she got from the Emperor�s Grand Seraphim. Would you could the Emperor himself a liar?

Reven: My house is framed can you not see the bigger conspiracy behind this?! Council show the footage of the sabotage!

And still would Reven�s High Consult would not look him in the eye. As such, they did nothing and with it Lord La Fraga�s fate was sealed.

Grand Senator Rufio: Under my divine right, you stand to be executed upon the world your birth in two days. Take him away

With this final command Reven and Drizzt were carried away to their holding cell. A man looked from the chamber. High Senator Basch Kasades got up from his seat and followed the precession.

Lord Cavanagh was sleeping when they notified him that Governor Beltane had contacted him. He rose from his sleep-couch and dressed himself. He then relocated himself to the command room and Governor Beltane's face appeard on the holo-projector.

Lord Cavanagh: Governor Beltane, this is Lord Cavanagh, leader of what remains of House Cavanagh.

Governor Beltane: Ah yes, there are few in this galaxy who do not know of you or your misfortuned house. What can I do for you?

Lord Cavanagh: All I will say over an open subspace channel such as this is that I wish to place a rather large order with you. Very large, in fact. I'd say you and I would be lucrative business partners from now on, should this venture of mine succeed.

Governor Beltane: This does indeed intrigue me.

Lord Cavanagh: As I thought it would. I will arrive at Balmorra in several days, there we can discuss this in more detail.

Governor Beltane: I will eagerly await your arrival.

Beltane's face flickered and disappeared.

Lord Cavanagh: General, we'll be needing some kind of transport to Balmorra. What can you provide for us?

General Vaklu: For you, Cavanagh? The very least I can do is three capital ships all with full fighter and supprt frigate escorts.

Lord Cavanagh: I won't forget this, General. I'll see to it that you're fully compensated once this is over.

General Vaklu: You need not do that, it is my pleasure to help an old friend.

Captain Tobin: When do we leave?

Lord Cavanagh: As soon as possible.

It's been many years since the majority of the humans have moved off of what used to be Earth. However, some still remain on the lifeless rock. Food is no longer grown or slaughtered... The humans remain as the only species on the planet. The Heons, the more fortunate ones, have long since abandoned the planet and took with them all of the vital galaxy-faring technology. The Wrenians, the ones that still remain on their home (nicknamed by the Heons), are desperate for anything... Their governmental systems are unstable, and what little economic base that remains is crumbling. A mysterious Heon from the outer fringes of the colonies will change this though...

Commander Xavier: Men, load up the vessel and load it up fast. We have a long journey ahead of us, and we can't waste any time.

Colonel Owen: Commander, sir, may I ask... What do you see in the takeover of that useless rock?

Commander Xavier: Typical Owen. I have my reasons, thank you. DO remember that those people are dying out and it IS technically our home. Consider it a humanitarian mission.

Owen sensed the sharp tone Xavier had in his voice and decided to fall silent and go back to overseeing the loading of the vessel. Xavier, of course, has ulterior motives for the takeover of the Wrenians. Crate after crate of weapons were loaded into the gigantic ship, followed by crates of synthetic soil and genetically engineered plants.

Engineer Cid: Commander! The ship is loaded and ready for takeoff! Awaiting your final command!

Commander Xavier: Go. I'm coming.

Xavier was deep in thought about how he was going to pull this off. He had a basic idea of how this was going to unfold, but he had the feeling that someone would interfere... Since his banishment from the Capitol and the main colonies, he's had a difficult time accomplishing much of anything... He had barely left Lord Cavanaugh alive, and had murdered Emperor Taz. But, this gained much support among the Rebellion planet of Korell. They had retrieved him after the final battle between the Empire and his fleets, and took him back to their main base, where he recovered from major injuries.

As it had every year for decades, it performed a scan of specific communications frequencies, all long disused and abandoned. It had been many years since even an ion of activity was detected, but today was different. Today the channels were alive with transmissions and databursts.

It took the small brain of the computer monitering the sensor several moments to compute this data and retrieve the appropriate response; the remaining power in its capacitors was scarcely sufficient to send a small codeburst on a single-beam com. But it was enough.

In the shifting gases and particles of the Oort Cloud, a relay opened. Nitrogen gas vented as compartments were pressurized, and cryopods began their automated warmup processes. Dormant systems were brought online by AIs, and damage reports taken and dealt with. Positioning jets fired, and as the warship lifted itself out of the asteroid crater it had been hidden in, a stray beam of light from some distant star illuminated for a moment the name etched on the side. ISW Vengeance.

Last known registry House Arkanor. Military Attack Vessel Class C-12, designation Heavy Cruiser type A3. Main Line Armament two forward-mounted railgunsm, twelve 150mm autocannons forward, 250 starboard and 250 port side 20mm point defense cannons, twenty ventral missile launch tubes, twenty dorsal missile launch tubes, five stern missile launch tubes, five aft missile launch tubes.

Coughing as the remaining cryogenic gases and liquid-breathing fluid was vented from the tube, the commander of the vessel awoke. He said only a single sentence before turning his attention to the other command crewmembers.

A little backstory, to try and tie together what seems to be several storylines spanning almost a year.

It was the end of the war. For over five years, the armies of the foul usurper Xavier had ravaged the galaxy. Having usurped the true Emperor TazG, he sought to extend his grip over the whole of known space. With his traitorous Federation, he was able to crush almost all resistance until a desperate alliance lead by Lord Cavanagh, Lord La Fraga, and Lord Arkanor defeated him at the climactic battle of Antares IV.

Their common enemy vanquished, the surviving Great Houses turned on each other. House Arkanor was almost completely destroyed in a sneak attack by an unknown force; their capital world, Veritia II, was glassed within three days. Only a handful of survivors were able to make their way to safety – whether Lord Arkanor himself survived has been a point of historical contention for decades. Most reliable sources agree that he most likely perished leading a suicidal diversionary attack to allow what remained of his people to escape.

Still, rumor persisted that he had survived, and in the deeps of space was rebuilding a fleet of ships, intent on returning to seek vengeance on whoever he thought was responsible. Others said that he planned to restore the long-missing Emperor TazG to the throne. Yet others suggested that his motives were darker and more inclined towards self-interest. Whatever the case, he has not been seen or heard from in decades, and if he does indeed still live then he must have forsaken this Universe and fled into the Scattering.
