Sometimes the reply button is annoying, and there are several minor glitches with the current stuff (including the feared return to the index screen), but this one isn't TOO terribly bad...

There is no question.
I could make a huge list of problems with the current system. Even now, after voting I get this ugly "POLL_THANK_YOU" message, and I am writing this using the "Basic Editor" because the "Advanced Editor" was designed for Internet Explorer only.

And phpBB is unquestionably the best system to use.
You simply can't beat literally infinite flexibility.

This software is way too glitchy.

Not only that, but I think the style needs updating so it looks as clean as the Free Games homepage.

Re: [Xbot] Should FGF change its forum software? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm going to start making a list of the problems here... but there is one thing that I actually like about the forums that I haven't seen in most other forums - you can reply to a specific post (instead of the entire thread), and click "In reply to" to see the post someone is replying to. It should not be a problem to get phpBB to do this, though.
The problem with this is that many people don't know how to use it and simply reply to whichever "Reply" link catches their eye first - and the person who should actually be seeing the reply doesn't get notified... this will be the first in my complaint list:

1. You don't get an e-mail notification when there is a reply in one of your threads; only when someone replies to your post in particular.
2. You can't "subscribe" to threads... the only way to be notified of thread updates is by posting in the thread and hoping the replies go to your post.
3. In the "Display Profile", the time offset is based on Australian time instead of GMT which everyone is used to.
4. The whole system is unreliable. It goes down too often and can be extremely slow.
5. The style is, basically, boring. Solid colors and regular buttons for everything.
6. There is no option for moderators to delete a thread.
7. When you vote in a poll, you are shown a message that says, "POLL_THANK_YOU".
8. Tags only work in certain forums.
9. Posts are regularly interrupted with annoying links. pool Runescape Free Games etc.
10. The Advanced Editor was written for Internet Explorer only, something I think is despicable in web designers. The World Wide Web is World Wide, not Microsoft Wide.
11. If you want to post when you are not logged in, you must click "LOG IN" and then manually go back to the forum + thread + page where you wanted to post. Other forums simply bring up the login page when you try to post and you can immediately start posting.
12. Censored words are only censored as you are viewing posts, not in usernames, quotes, or post titles.

I will add more later because I have some things to do now.

Couple things.

MODs can delete threads. But you have to go to the thread, click delete, and click 'delete thread' or 'remove thread'. Delete thread will just make it show as 'deleted by Xbot' or something. Remove means it's GONE.

Second - those words are intended to be linked Wink

13. When trying to reply, it takes you to the Main Index sometimes.

14. Theres no-way for any mod to nuke posts.

15. Problems before - sometimes blocked IP's / usernames have returned.

16. Inappropriate GoogleAds - sometimes promoting keyloggers.

You know what I mean.

Like being able to scrub the entire cheats forum - more or less pruning/purging.

Yes, I know that.
But it is annoying - I don't want it. They could at least be capitalized... I would never write "Runescape" in lowercase letters and I don't want a webpage to do that to it.
My posts are my posts, not Free Games posts. I want them to appear as I have written and intended them to appear.

17. Threads often get stretched horizontally (past the edge of a browser window).
18. The "info" section of the post (with the avatar etc.) should show a little more information about the poster, like postcount and something from their profile if they have entered it.
19. Signatures are not separated at all from posts. To make a decent signature we need to manually add our own separator which counts towards our measly 100 characters.
20. Postcount remains the same even after posts are deleted.
21. The bar at the top does not adjust properly when the browser window is shrunk very small (not a huge problem).
22. You can't use tags in your signature.
24. Line breaks are sometimes replaced with ugly codes when you post.

2. You can't "subscribe" to threads... the only way to be notified of thread updates is by posting in the thread and hoping the replies go to your post.

i know this is not a reason to dispute the topic but you can subscribe to specific threads by using the "watch thread" option but the problem with that is you get summaries in your box about everything in the thread.

Looks like we've got 2 number 16's. (There's one in my post).

25. Spell Check makes you aware of an error, but doesn't actually give any suggestions.
