WTF is this shit? Can't Post

Since when is it legal for a company to change your contract? I NEVER signed up to an internet server with bandwidth limitations.

Are they even aloud to do that? Thats [Expletive Deleted]ing BS.

They used to do this with dial-up, but with broadband? Thats just not right. I pay like $60 a month for this, I shouldn't have limitations.

When the contract says they can.

And Rogers mailed out a warning a month prior to putting that in effect.

You pay $60 for that?

I have T-Mobile with Hotspot (including @Home), so I get
  1. 4 cell lines (FREE US calling, unlimited minutes / messaging / media, and I can add additional lines for only like $10 each a month)
  2. Broadband internet (at home with a router) with about T1 speeds, and ulimited bandwidth. I know T-Mobile has (had?) Twitter blocked due to *shiver* Net Neutrality, but in all honestly I couldn't give less of a crap about Twitter, and if it comes down to it, it's nothing OpenDNS and some router hacks can't fix.
  3. Mobile internet (y'know, tethering - a internet connection wherever I have cell reception on my laptop. Since I have a hacked iPhone, I can just use it to tether so I don't have to pay for one of those cards, but I probably will just for the speed increase later)
  4. A land line, with FREE long distance and caller ID
Plus, other than AT&T, it's the only other big provider that's GSM so I can use my jailbroken iPhone with it.

And it only costs about ~$120-$140 a month.

I'd feel pretty ripped off if I were you, man.

Yeah, its a huge rip off.

Things may have changes since I last changed my ISP (Looks like I'm going to again.), but from what I saw when I last changed was that there were really only two ISPs. Bell, and Rogers. They've basically crushed all the small businesses. From doing that, they now have no competition, other than themselves. So, if they agree to not compete with prices, that means prices stay high. Sigh at Canada.

That was two years ago, so I'm hoping things have changed.

Bell, ahaha. They used to be big when dial-up was de-facto in the US. Pissed me off then, and I presume that up in Canada, they piss you off now.

But hey, suffer a bit longer and it might be worth keeping your fingers crossed.

That would be amazing if they came to Canada. Right now our phone / internet providers are, well, [Expletive Deleted]ed up. Rogers and Bell dominate, prices keep raising, plans become worse, and right now theres no other company to stop them.

My cellphone has a great plan, and Bells been trying to get me to "upgrade" it for months now. I bought it about 2 years ago and I have unlimited minutes, texts, internet, and basically everything for $35 a month. I bought a Solo phone when they first came out for dirt cheap. Lately, they've been really messing with me saying I hadn't payed my phone bill in 3 months, and they would cancel my plan if I didn't pay it that week or something. I had to call them and basically sit there yelling at them for over an hour before "they found the paperwork".

The two companies are ridiculous, its pretty much one company ripping off all of Canada.

[Expletive Deleted] Canada, we don't have anything like that.

The thing that ticks me off about all this, is it just feels like ISPs are backtracking. People are talking about how the internet is huge, and becoming bigger, which is true. You use it for more things now, and almost everyone needs a computer, 8 years ago, there really was no need to have your own computer. It was just convenient, some jobs required them, but not like they do now.

It honestly feels like going back 10-12 years when dial-up ISPs has time limits on their internet. Mine had a 30 hour a month limit, if you went over you payed double for each hour. I felt so restricted when I had that, and just decided to get rid of the internet.

I really don't download much, a few songs here and there, a few movies, thats it. Average things. Yet I'll be at this "limit" in a few days. And the thing is, even if I never pass the limit, nothing changes. I still see it as being morally wrong.

Canadians are already charged far, far, far more than Americans are, and to have more limitations thrown at us, just feels wrong.

I'm going to college next year for general business. I've taken basically every business class my school has to offer, and I understand that they just want to make money. Its not the companies I'm mad at. I'm just irritated that the lack of competition in Canada, is forcing us to get horrible deals, and sadly, things are getting worse.

Sounds just like AT&T's 1st gen iPhone plan (which I also love).

Are you serious?

When i used to live in Canada i had Sympatico. Fairly cheap and they didn't have any limitations, not sure if they're still around tho.

If your paying for the service they shouldnt hide things like that in a contract. Everything should be clearly identified if its important. Frankly nickel and dimming people is retarded.
