rules or something Can't Post

  • Thread names Don't name your thread something stupid like "lol", and don't give it a shock name like "FREE PORN HERE!!".
  • Don't point out that someone else has "spammed", seriously, how does this make you better then that person?
  • Threads about drugs are stupid and won't attract any intelligent new users to the forum. Please stop posting them.
  • DON'T POST IF the "content" of your post is under three words, unless you are sure it is funny, is not a meme, and somehow keeps the conversation going in the thread.
  • Duplicate threads/threads with the same "content" suck. Bump the old thread please.
  • chatlogs suck

JON B: LOL DER WAS THI THING DA ODER DAI AND I BITE ME
    BONI: LOL [INSIDE JOKE]
CARL: HAHA CAN I POST THIS
BONI:NO SILLY CHATLOGS ARE SUCK MORE THEN YOU EVER WILL

  • Don't post/bump bot spam threads please? how many times must I ask?
  • Threads regarding finding out personal details about people on the forums (PARTICULARALY TAZG) are bannable kthx
  • OH BOO HOO You are "leaving" FGF. We don't care. Don't post a thread about it
  • Threads regerding how [Expletive Deleted]ty of a user _________ is are not allowed unless it is kasaki because that would be mildly amusing somehow.
  • BY THE WAY GUISE a youtube link and a single sentence does not constitute as a contributive thread. Please inhale anti-freeze if you disagree with me
  • THE NEW WORDFILTER RULE: Ask a moderator for permission if you feel you need to bypass the wordfilter. Nobody takes a forum that doesn't allow profanity seriously, it's only filtered because it gets to be a bit of an eyesore after a while, the wordfilter is also for people browsing through school/work who have internet connections that block pages with profane content. (ASK AS IN CONTACT OVER MSN OR SEND A PM, DO NOT POST A THREAD ABOUT IT) A warning goes out to anyone who bypasses the filter, and if you do it twice, it's a ban.
  • DON'T IMAGE LEECH. UPLOAD EVERY IMAGE YOU ARE GOING TO POST TO IMAGESHACK, PHOTOBUCKET, TINYPIC OR SOME OTHER SERVICE BEFORE POSTING IT HERE. WE DO NOT LIKE GETTING COMPLAINTS ABOUT US USING OTHER PEOPLES BANDWIDTH.

CLICK HERE TO GO TO A RANDOM POST THIS IS A FUN GAME FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

HERE IS THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO NOT SUCKING ON A FORUM:

Anyone who consistently fails at following this and appears to contribute more boredom and annoyance to the forum than anything else, will in most cases be banned. Consider this a warning. If you do get banned, don't say that you were never given a warning or a reason.

    Spam

    Where and when to post

  • Don't make bad threads popular. This should be obvious, but a lot of people don't get it. If somebody makes a dumb thread, you don't have to reply to it telling them how dumb it is. You people seem to take every opportunity to bump stupid crap, and then complain that the page is full of crap. The reason it's full of crap is because you reply to crap more often than the good, and the good gets pushed down so far that nobody looks at it anymore.

  • Make good threads popular. If you see a good thread and want it to last, keep replying to it so it stays at the top and more people see it. This should be obvious too, but it isn't.

  • But don't spam. Don't make a pointless spam post in a good thread just to bump it back up. That's the first step in turning a good thread into a bad one. It would be preferable to let a good thread die than to turn it into a crappy one.

  • Don't reply to advertisements. Let them die. They'll be deleted, so why bother breathing life into them as long as they still live? People don't want to come into this forum and see a stupid advertisement as one of the top 5 threads with a "hot" icon beside it. Advertisers get banned. They don't even read what you write. You're just spamming for no reason and giving real threads less priority. Don't do it.

  • Use the right forum. Don't post something in the General Forum if there is already another forum meant for it, and say "posting this here to get more replies." We don't want to reply to that; we're looking for some good threads. And you're once again taking away their priority. The General Forum is supposed to be for talking about stuff, not seeing somebody asking for computer help. What you guys don't realize is that by posting it here for "more replies" will mean it's ignored by most people because it's usually not interesting, and it's quickly washed away and forgotten by the flood of new threads that happens here daily. So you would actually have a higher chance of your thread being viewed and replied to by just waiting for someone to see it in the proper but inactive forum. Go figure!

  • Don't make duplicate threads. If you post something that has been posted once before, bump the old thread instead of making a new one. Bring more life to a thread that already has life, instead of trying to make a new one from scratch. Or if there is nothing more to gain, don't bump it, and don't make a new one. Most people would have seen the old one, which means a new one would be boring.

    Humor

How to not suck at being funny

  • Don't copy old jokes. Fads can be cool, but don't overdo it. Don't spam certain words or sentences every time you want to be funny (the most basic definition of "spamming" is "saying it repetitively"). Not only do you make yourself look uncreative and unfunny, you also make the original joke unfunny.

  • Don't use stupid words. You know what I mean. Cheese, pie, penis, buttsecks. It's really, really, not funny, and I don't know when it ever was. Even if it is, it's not funny anymore after the 50th, or even the 3rd time someone says it.

  • Don't talk about your personal life. Most of the time, it won't be funny to strangers on the Internet even if it's funny to you. "haha somebody in class farted today and they tried to hide it but everyone laffed and he turned red and left and my mom came her haircut was sooo funny look at my mom isnt she funny oh wait you cant see her"
You see, nobody really can say anything to that because they would have to be there to get it.

    Interest

How to not suck at being interesting

  • Don't talk about your personal life. Again, it's hard to interest people who aren't part of your life by talking about your life, unless you're really out of the ordinary. Don't post threads about how wonderful your girlfriend is, what tattoos you got, what your teacher said, or how drunk you got last night. Don't take every topic you were just talking to your friend on the phone about and make a forum topic on it. It's boring. It's like watching those pointless celebrity gossip shows, and you're not even a celebrity.

  • Don't post threads about avatars or signatures. If we want to comment on those things, we'd just do it. There doesn't need to be a thread about it.

  • Don't make threads featuring MSN conversations. 9 times out of 10, this is just as boring as talking about your personal life. It's boring to read a conversation you were not part of. People who actually take the time to read through them may chuckle a bit, or whatever the intended response to it may be, but for the most part nobody will have anything of much interest to add.

  • Don't announce that you are "leaving" or "back". Unless you're pretty sure that most of us will care, or at least know you, please don't bother telling us.

    Drama

How to not cause pointless drama

  • Keep topics to one thread. Particularly, when you are bitching about another member or something that was discussed in another thread. First of all, it's spam. Second, there is usually no good reason to be talking about it. Third, people are going to read your thread without talking to the people involved or without reading the other thread you're referencing. They'll assume things. It's worse than gossip.

  • Don't make a public apology. Usually when people do this, it's because of a tiny bit of drama that happened between two or just a few people. There is no need to apologize to the whole community if you think you screwed up, because most of them don't know what you're talking about, and you're getting them involved in drama they would be better off not knowing about.

  • Don't announce that you have "changed". Don't bring up something about you in the past, and say that you're different. Because you're probably not. And, just like the above, you're involving everyone in some drama that they don't need to even know about, or be reminded of.

  • Don't make a public "ban appeal". Don't complain about moderators. Don't compare yourself to someone else who wasn't banned and suggest there is some sort of conspiracy. Don't say you were banned unfairly just because you managed to get in our hair without actually breaking an official rule. And if you simply must waste your time on these things, DON'T do it in public. It does not help anyone. Example

    --WHAT IS TROLLING
    Another guide by TazG

    In Reply To
Trolling is not tolerated in these forums. (unless it is extremely funny)
This post is to clarify what trolling is. The information is taken from Wikipedia. Reasons for posting this are because people who have been banned for trolling normally don't understand why they are being called a "troll". Also people have been known to insult others by calling them trolls when they are not.

First of all, in a general sense, "Trolling is a concept usually involving attempting to get some entity to do something that is not in its own best interest." On forums, trolls cause a negative reaction and turn a thread into something it was never originally intended to be. Many times, a troll can post a single message that starts a chain reaction ending in a negative atmosphere to the whole thread or the people involved.

Following is a list of the most common examples of trolling on FGF. I will include any examples that I find.

  • Off topic messages: Those that are irrelevant to the focus of the forum. This can also be done in the middle of an existing thread to attempt to hijack the thread, or otherwise change the topic at hand. These disruptions may result in the degeneration of a well informed thread into a heated juvenile exchange consisting of insults and childish accusations between multiple parties.
    Example: Aroy004 hijacking a thread
  • Opinions stated as fact: Posting messages expressing their own opinions as generally accepted facts without offering any proof or analysis.
    Example: TagZ
  • Bumping an old discussion, or rehashing a highly controversial past topic. Note: This does not mean that whenever someone bumps a topic they are trolling.
Example: SMI and his friend starting conflicts
  • Defensive trolls - almost everyone who trolls here claims that they are "just stating their opinion". If you are one of those people, ask yourself, why are forums moderated in the first place?

Some other possible examples of trolling are as follows:

  • Claiming to be someone they cannot possibly be: "As an actual, real-life samurai, I have some problems with (the film) The Seven Samurai."
  • Intentionally naive questions: "Can I cook pasta in Evian instead of water?"
  • Politically contentious messages: "Everyone knows that all Republicans/Democrats are evil."

    "Feeding the Troll":
Experienced participants in online forums know that the most effective way to discourage a troll is usually to ignore him or her, because responding encourages a true troll to continue disruptive posts to that forum — hence the often-seen warning "Please do not feed the troll".
