If you hit them for no reason, the person who threw it probably gets ejected. But if the ball is in play, for example hit to shortstop, and the runner is on his way to first base, and the ball just so happens to hit him, then nothing really happens. The runner gets hurts maybe but he isn't out and he can't walk.

If the ball is hit and right off the bat it hits a runner who isn't on base, he's out.
Unless they changed that.
