Not really, Americans won't change their sporting tastes because of Beckham.

US dominates basketball but totally suck at soccer.

And so does beckham, tbh. Compared to the soccer we have here in Brazil, beckham is... pffffft.

The only reason why he plays in a big team like real madrid is because his name sells jerseys and his face sells other stuff to retarded girls. And dude, that's why real madrid is out there. It's not really a team, it's more of a company.

Nesta is some old man, if you lot got kaka or ronaldo then maybe but U.S.A. is famous for it's basketball, American football, golf, etc. One man can't change that, here in England I absolutely love football but I gurantee if I were living in America it would probably be basketball.

Yeah basketball's my favourite sport and all...But since I'm in Canada, it should be hockey that's my favourite sport, but anyways, if soccer were as big here as in Europe, I'd still favour basketball over it.

And what's with you people and this ronaldo??? I mean, c'mon! He used to be a great player, but that was back then on 1998 and before his knee surgery. He totally sucks at soccer now.

I meant christiano ronaldo, and I know it won't happen but I'm saying even if it did it wouldn't make a difference, three best players of this generation are kaka, c. ronaldo and messi.

Oh yeah, ronaldo. Yeah, he's good.

Even if all the best soccer players went to USA, it wouldn't effect nothing. It's not about the players, it's just that soccer isn't part of the original american culture as basketball, hokey etc. is.

I completely agree, I don't see why the british press are making such a big deal about it, all they're saying is it will make a difference, I say bull[Expletive Deleted].

Re: [Memino] Will David Beckham effect USA SOCCER [In reply to] Can't Post

LA Galaxy's main purpose for Beckham was to sell shirts. Beckham by far is the worlds most known football player. He might not be the best, but he is known all around the world.

Will he effect football in the USA? No.
First couple of GAMES people will go to see him play, not to see his skills or watch football, but just to see him.
I was watching the USA vs China game yesterday though, I was very surprised to see the vast amount of American supporters and their enthusiasm.

In reply to Memino's thoughts on the best players in the world;

Your eye is to focused on tv football. Search deeper and you will find the amazing skill of players like Gerrard or even the great Scott Sinclair of Plymouth Argyle.

Again Memino, the British press are saying he will effect ticket prices. In America he is a star! not for football but for his wife, family and all those Gilete adverts. People will want to see him not his feet.
But the odd percent might like his football, enjoy watching the sport and it could.. possible effect the view of football in the USA.

USA just beat Brazil 2-0. I'm not really a soccer guy, but I can at least tell you that's a shutout.

We have 5 WORLD CUP titles. How many you have? Oh, okay.

Also, the actual team is weak, I understand. But Brazil's soccer is still the best soccer in the world.

We have none because nobody over here really cares about soccer. If we wanted to we could create better programs around the country to try to build some sort of continuing athlete program to fuel our World Cup teams. But, seeing as we don't care about soccer, we'll continue barely making it to the Cup and losing in the first round.

Based on personal views.

@threadcreator - It's affect, not effect.
