Okay, then why are we adding to the post count if that doesn't help decide if they are good?
Precisely what you stated, it's the Veteran Polls that decide. If you don't want them as Veteran then don't vote for them, don't feel obligated to vote "Yes" if you don't want them as Veteran. If they don't deserve Veteran, they won't get it; if they do deserve it, they will receive it.

Veteran Polls aren't about whether the current veterans want more veterans or not, its supposed to be about whether the person running for veteranship is worthy or not.It's the job of all those that vote to judge the person and not just vote no or yes cluelessly.t'
