About applying Can't Post

OK, I get a lot of PMs. Dozens. I reply to a vast majority.

But I'm getting tired of people who aren't even enthusiast yet - some not even at the 'novice' level - are applying. OK, people, look - I'm not answering these PMs anymore. If you can't spend the time to read the FAQ/Rules, I'm not spending the time replying to your PMs explaining to read them.

I know it seems cruel and mean, but there's a reason those links are at the top right - SO YOU SEE THEM.

Sorry if this upsets anyone.

PLEASE STICKY.

1. People who ignore rules probably also won't bother looking in here and reading this.
2. How long does it take to click "Reply" and type "No, you need to have 500 posts"??

i would say approximately 7-10 seconds...

With Xbot's average typing speed, I think that 8 would actually be the maximum.

Maybe put something about it in your sig or profile, so that when they go to PM you, they see it?

I don't know, just a suggestion.

Re: [TazG] About applying [In reply to] Can't Post

It's not about time, it's about principle. Do you really deserve a reply if you won't even spend the time learning the rules?

I've got a kickass idea. What if whenever someone popped me a PM, it would show a screen just after they click 'send' that would make you type in a code (hidden in the text) in order to send it. It would include veteran application guidelines, like who should apply for veteran, and a few basic rules, and tips? I mean, it'd be easy to see for people who haved PMed me before, they could just look in that spot and it shouldn't be too much inconvenience - but it'd make it a hell of a lot easier on me Wink

It's not that much of an inconvenience. I guess the first time you PM me, yes, it will, but after that it will be as easy as cake. Just look in that same spot, copy the code, and paste it in the box.

I just think it'd reduce the amount of stupid people who have been PMing me and everyone else probably recently. I guess this long title thing is having a negative effect. I mean...What's the train of thought behind it? "Dude, that guy has 3 lines of titles - he must have moderator access to every forum on the forum, I'm going to PM him and ask him to be my friend even though I've not made any posts yet and this text is really just the way it should be, while my real PM will be in unintelligible leet speak. Yeah, that's a great idea."

I guess it's nice that nobody's asking me what 'veteran controller' is anymore. Those people I just wanted to sterilize so they never have kids, and, therefore, increase the IQ of mankind by 100 points.

TazG, it's kind of like when you grade your classmates' papers at school. Ultimately it's inconveniencing you, but in the end, it's making it a lot easier on the teacher, and thus, that teacher will probably be easier on you. Instead of grading 31 papers, she's simply telling you what the answers are and you're marking them. It saves hours - literally. Just for a few minutes.

Except on FGF that kind of dribbles down. Heh, if we're lucky, we might see less spam. "Oh [Expletive Deleted] it said I have to read everything to locate the code. Well, I guess I'll have to read the rules then..."

Yeah, to their accounts. Screw the PMs. If they're too stupid to read the rules, ban them. They're no good to us here.

Blah.
Van Jens, what do you want me to do? I think it's an awful idea, and I'm going to say so.

Xbot, no matter how you look at it, you would be unnecessarily inconveniencing everybody because of your laziness.
I do have an idea of how it should be done, but it may not be possible: There should simply be an "apply" link / button added to the end of this, which sends the Veteran Controller a notification. Get it? Simple.

Hmm...

Maybe as they're sending the PM, there will be a link that says "If you want to apply for veteran...", which would lead them to a page, where they fill out a bit of information, then it's popped to my PM box. Then a link is sent to them via email telling them my response.

Sound good?
